UPC dvr / pvr copy old recordings with subtitles to mac

my roommate received an offer (or was informed that she would be forced???) to upgrade the older UPC dvr / pvr that comes with the cable subscription a couple of months ago.

i have a lot of video with subtitles on the existing dvr i'd like to copy off the existing device to my mac before we are eventually forced to upgrade to the new gadget. would anybody know if that's possible and if so how?

based on online research, recapturing the video is not a solution i want to go down so it's not considered an option. the video isn't that important to me i basically want to copy the vid / subtitle files that exist on the UPC hard drive to the mac if it is at all possible. if the files are encrypted, it's not worth my time either. ( edit: i just discovered the device is specifically a samsung horizon box, which may have affected my initial search. )

just wondering if anybody has ever done this.

secondary:

the new UPC dvr with integrated phone app / cloud and a lot more recording hour capacity sounds great since you can bounce back and forth between replay of recordings on various devices so i'm up for the switch. however, i researched the forums and apparently upc has a very bad reputation so maybe the new integrated features are crap and maybe we should just stick with the old box and my old recordings. does anybody have personal experience with the new record / multi-device playback features and the service in general?

thx

Re: UPC dvr / pvr copy old recordings with subtitles to mac

Since the box does not allow such datatransfer the only solution would be to use a video grabber, which is time consuming and expensive.

I don't know what kind of recordings they are, but have a look on the web, you can download .srt files for almost every movie/series ever made.
