Salt vs UPC - my experience

I thought this may be useful - as salt (if you can get it) is dirt cheap for an amazingly fast service... but I keep hearing about how great the UPC service is... So this is my "diary" of what happens on my transition from Salt to UPC.

I started with salt a year ago - box arrived, plugged it in, and it all worked. No hassle with anything. Even got 2 months of payment refunded as I still had UPC for 2 months.

In my new place, salt wont be around for another year. So I ordered a UPC 600 connection - was cheap enough at 39 chuffs a month, with TV for a year.

Box arrived pretty quickly, plugged it in today.. .and nothing. First a white flashing led, then a green one, but no internet. Seems like it can't connect. Tried a few options as I have 3 connectors per socket, and 4 sockets around the house, but nothing on any.

Call up UPC support, and after waiting a fair amount of time (would hazard 10 minutes even though they said wait was 15 or so) get told that there is a connection issue on my line. I would get a text later once it's fixed, or a call back later from a technician if they can't fix it.

So far, no callback and no text. I'll keep this updated as UPC progresses.

You mean Salt fiber and not their mobile, right?
As for UPC, I had them a few years back and 'it just worked'...
On the other had as of 1,5 months I am on Wingo (on their DSL / G.Fast) and that was a road through hell to first get it to work at all and then get promised speed... took me about a month!!

I got a Salt mobile for my wife some 6 years ago. It worked so well that when my daughter needed one a year later, we got a 2nd contract with Salt. 2 years ago my son turned 13, and we got him a Salt pre-paid, and last year turned it into a regular abo.

Last week I got a new contract for myself also with Salt.

We're all pretty satisfied. Works exactly as it should, invoicing is detailed and uneventful. Never had a disruption of service. I recommend it.

Just make sure you have the correct abo or you're not calling outside of Switzerland. And you turn off SIM once you leave Switzerland.

Some of my nasty surprises with Salt:
- I forgot my roaming on, as I was using a different SIM card. 9 CHF for 3MB of data while in France.
- I accidentally called a non-Swiss number. 2 CHF for 3 seconds of calling. The other person didn't even pick it up, just the fact that I rang the number.
- The craziest of them all, I was in Poland, with roaming turned off, but someone from Switzerland called my number. I was charged 3 CHF for the fact that someone called me, even though I didn't pick it up.

Re: Salt vs UPC - my experience

So UPC called me back today, and asked the same questions again (which cable are you using, is it in a 2 or 3 port socket).

Then the guy said that it had been passed to 2nd line support on Sunday, but that they passed it back to first to ask these questions. Again.

So now I need to wait for a callback to set an appointment for someone to come and look at it.
