I think it's a fair argument to say that you buy iPhones because you've always had iPhones and you like the ecosystem and don't want to try anything else.

But touting basic expected things like next day delivery and transferring your old phone over to your new phone wirelessly is just madness. Android phones do this all for a fraction of the price.
My wife used to have iPhones. Then she switched to Galaxy last year and is equally happy. She’s better than me though as she can use iPad as well. I struggle with Samsung and each time I touch it, it instinctively goes to the main menu, kinda it rejects iPhone users fingers.

Re: Why I'm in love with Apple stuff

I know that I‘m currently a persona non grata on this Forum, and I vowed never to post again.

But on this thread, agree, it‘s true.

I went through the same process. Started off by hating Apple products.

Was a Windows prof.

Now I have the latest iPad (for my daily life), MacBookPro (for my video editing to a semi-professional level), and am holding-back on whether to upgrade my iPhone to the next level.

But have to say, life is now organised - have everything synchronized in Calendar with family, and all my to-dos in Notes. Wherever I go, it‘s just there.

I also track my fitness (synced with my scales) to avoid another stroke.

Works for me.

You paid at least 800CHF for a phone and you're happy you got next day delivery and it transferred over your setting the same as a 150CHF Android would?
I had that same experience with my latest Android phone.
Ok, it was 200 CHF but it was delivered on the same evening.

If the OP had gone for the CHF150 Android, they would still be trying to transfer all the data over ...
And some things, like Contacts with custom settings, can’t be transferred at all.
You may well be right since OP is an IOS user and might have made a dog's breakfast of using an Android and transferring data.

However, by simply ensuring 1. That I only create contacts as Google contacts, 2. That I let Google photos back up any image and video folders, 3. That I download any 1Gb files I want to keep to the SD card (suck on that iPhone users) I can basically take a hammer to my phone at any time and start using a new one seamlessly. I don't need to place the old phone next to the new one (stupid waste of time and not possible after the hammer trick anyway) since everything needed to restore is in the cloud.

I also had to LOL at this... I think AbFab is a perfect example of the generation gap.

The iPhone 11 costs almost double what a Samsung S10e costs and yet has no OLED screen or wireless charging. I have converted a fair few people to Android this year by just patiently explaining the sheer difference in price for what is in practical terms a worse phone with less features than most high-end Android phones on the market.

Only people who don't know any better buy expensive iPhones nowadays.
iPhone has had wireless charging since version 8.. and it has oled too.. and an s10 costs over 800chd..

Now if we’re talking second hand value that’s another thing.. a second hand s10 costs about 3chf .. the iPhone holds its value

It is not just the settings, it is simply everything.
Samsung has an app that does this too. Everything. Wallpaper, apps, contacts, everything. In about 20 minutes.

Re: Why I'm in love with Apple stuff

My co-worker switched from an (old-ish) OLED Samsung to an Xr earlier this year (I got a Product Red Xr in January and he really seemed to like the color).

AFAIK, Apple's backup and restore is still unparalleled.

It will transfer all setting for all apps. And all data (except stuff like device-authorizations for e-banking etc.)

There's no native Android app for that, AFAIK.

I think you must root it and use Titanium backup.

This year's iPhones are really, really good.

OLED may be a "nicer" screen, but if you're coming from a non-OLED screen anyway it does not matter at all. Apple's LCD on the iPhone XR and 11 is very, very well calibrated and beats higher resolution LCDs of other devices by miles.

Unfortunately, there still seem to be a rather large number of bugs in iOS 13 (I've not really encountered anything strange or annoying myself, on my Xr), but generally, iOS is very much a "use and forget" device.

The native Android app is called Settings / System / Backup. You may be thinking of a very old Android version.

Backup and restore has for some time been basically the same in iOS and Android. And no, neither of them will transfer all data for all third party apps (ie. apps not made by Apple or Google).

Google used to be significantly better because of the third party SMS Backup app which Apple didn't have an equivalent for. That's seems to be gone for now (and far fewer people are using SMS at least here).

My iPhone 6 was eating a battery charge in 12 hours, less if I actually used it.

Looked at other phones, but it's a learning curve.

Ordered an 11 online at the Apple website yesterday (Thursday) at 14.14. Order confirmed by return email. By the evening DHS was advising it was on its way from Milan and I could watch each step online.

It turned up in Basel at 07.05 this morning and the driver phoned 30 minutes before delivering to see if I was here. Delivered at 10.17 this morning (Friday) the next day.

Opened the beautiful packaging. Took out the near fully-charged iPhone 11 and laid next to it for half an hour and everything was copied flawlessly to the new phone.

That's the way to do business...
How sweet

Re: Why I'm in love with Apple stuff

Oh yes. Apple stuff is great. The Airpod Pro actually uses a non-proprietary battery that you can get hold of easily. Shame it's soldered and glued and so cannot be replaced.

https://www.theregister.co.uk/2019/1...pods_teardown/

This is exactly why ALL iThings are banned from my home. The ban started when my old 64GB iPod's HD failed 5 days after the one year warranty. I opened it up to find that they'd used a Toshiba HD that was only available in bulk.

Deliberately designing products so they can't be fixed was an Apple innovation.

The Evil Apple Empire - full of expensive proprietary crap. However, the True Believers will continue to subscribe, regardless of the facts.

To each his own.

That said, Apple never made a 64GB non-flash HD. My guess would be that it was a 2004/2005/2006 iPod Photo/iPod Color Display or 5th Generation iPod (they made 60GB versions of those). So, we're talking about a 15 year old device here.
Holding a grudge over 15 years is an achievement on its own, IMO ;-)

Newer iPod with 64GB are flash-only and because Apple uses very high quality flash, you rarely hear about the storage inside them dying (something else will give in before that, usually).

My old iPhone 4S lasted almost seven years. Without a case or a bumper. It still works, but I don't use it anymore, because it would really need a battery replacement (which might be difficult because the screen does have a hairline-fracture...).

Later iPhone are sealed water-tight and I would certainly not trust myself to open one up without breaking it - much less bringing it back to its original, water-tight state. Nor would I put much trust in anybody else but Apple-staff to do that correctly.

They may fumble it, too, but at least when they break your iDevice on repair, they usually issue you a new one (or rather a refurb) on the spot.

You can spend too much, but you can also spend too little and then you'll pay later. Or more often.

And on top of that, there's also the whole "I don't want Google to know everything about me"-thing.
