Family mobile subscriptions

I've got two kids approaching their teens and I'm starting to research how to deal with additional mobile phone subscriptions. I was surprised to find exactly ZERO shared family subscriptions, with the next best option being M-Budget which allows additional subs for 19.-/mo.

I guess that's ok, but is there really nothing out there for kids under 16 to share their parents' plan whilst cutting their teeth on a smartphone?

There's a market out there for this segment, and I'm sure tons of parents would switch over if they could add their teenager to their own plan for an additional 10.- per month. But my current provider Sunrise seems pretty ignorant – their "youth" plan is for anyone under 30!

Re: Family mobile subscriptions

I think even M-Budget family option is quite a novelty here (and not limited to kids).

I don't remember similar plans being advertized in Italy, not even by big groups like Vodafone; on the other side, in Italy abos can be 5 or 9.9 Euro/month, so maybe there's no need for family subscriptions...

Everyone would like to pay less, but that does not make it a market... Your kids are going to get subscriptions in any case, so no need to encourage them with cheaper rates...

I don't know any foreign teenagers, but all the Swiss ones I know through my own teenagers all had 'pay as you go' subscriptions and relied on WIFI when they visited their friends houses. It is only since my daughter and her friends started their apprenticeships that they got subscriptions and THEY pay for them, not the parents.

Re: Family mobile subscriptions

When my youngest son needed a mobile for long-distance public transport travel alone, I initially asked Salt about pre-paid options, as he would rarely be using it ... then the staff member checked, and my subscription had recently expired, so he suggested an interesting option: 9.95 / month for my son's subscription (unlimited calls/texts, 1.5 GB/month), and I received a 15.00 / month discount on mine because his was linked to my account.
Still not sure exactly how that works, but worth asking in the stores if they have special deals. I didn't spot anything like this offer on their website.

Re: Family mobile subscriptions

As you have found out there are not prepackaged options available but all you can do is compare linked accounts. I am with Sunrise and my boy's accounts are Chf 15 a month 5gb/unlimited calls and text which normally is Chf45. You need to go old school and call a service centre to get the best rates.

The Salt offer is on their website, more often than not, for existing subscribers under "Additional Lines".

It is maybe not exactly what you are looking for but Digitec Connect also do a Family & Friends offer. One account holder has overall control of up to 4 additional F&F accounts. Data allowance starts at 3GB and increases by 1GB for each F&F member.

Re: Family mobile subscriptions

Anyone using Talk Talk? They seem to have a decent offer for 19.95 SFr including calls in EU & USA. Or is there a catch? How is the Sunrise network these days?
