LycaMobile blackout

after being a happy LycaMobile customer for several years, since this morning my phone refuses to register into the network. Customer support has unleashed the 2nd-level support, but I find it unacceptable to be without mobile connection for more than a few minutes/year, I don't remember experiencing anything like that since I bought my first phone in 1995. So, after 12+ hours of blackout I'm asking myself if anybody else went (or is going now) through the same troubles with Lyca and what's the next best alternative. Also, does anybody have any experience with TalkTalk?

Thanks!

Re: LycaMobile blackout

Is this Swisscom yet again? Lycamobile piggybacks Swisscom's network.

I have not noticed any blackout and Lycamobile texted me at 00.01 this morning to advise my prepay had been extended for another 30 days.

When was this blackout??

The lycamobile signal is up and running in Aargau. I would also check if your sim card is corrupted or if you have not loaded it with money for a very long time and they have blocked your sim.

Than start paying a lot more and get a multi-provider card.

Still would not help if the problem is on your side which is all but unlikely in your current situation.

Re: LycaMobile blackout

latest update: 2nd-level support closed the ticket saying that they do not see the phone registered, which is exactly my problem. I opened another ticket in the meanwhile, but I think it's a dead-end.

I tried a different phone, to no avail. The 1st-level support suggested the SIM might be malfunctioning, but the phone is not complaining about it. How can I check if it's corrupted? Also, what's a multi-provider card?

I'm a bit of a geek, but I'm blissfully ignorant of all these telecom-related things...

Thanks everybody for the help!

Re: LycaMobile blackout

Have you tried the sim in a different phone? Have you accidentally turned on flight mode?
Having eliminated these two issues I'd ask for a replacement sim.

There are only so many things that a phone will complain about with your sim, however there can be many more things wrong with your SIM.

If you have the option I'd pass by a physical store, let them test it and if needed they can replace/order a new sim on the spot.

Multi-provider means that if one provider/network is down or out of reach it switches to another one. I had one from work but those are pricey. Work however did not want to risk me not being out of reach due to network disruption or bad reception.

Re: LycaMobile blackout

alright... I got a new (free!) Lyca SIM at the nearest Kiosk, got it activated and I'm now waiting for my old number and credit to me migrated to the new SIM. As EdwinNL suggested, the issue might have been in one of the many things that can go wrong in a SIM that a phone won't complain about.

As I'm an online-security paranoid (I use yubikeys everywhere I can) I couldn't help noticing how SIMs are a social-engineer playground... I wonder if the identity checks they do are enough.

Anyway, thank you everybody for your support.

Experienced the same issue some time last year but i figured it out quickly and asked myself for a new sim. Their support is for nothing.
