Surely that depends entirely on your needs and why you want 5G.

The 5G standard is stable, so no worry there.

Cost of 5G phones will inevitably come down, so waiting would be cheaper.

Coverage will increase, so you'll get more value from your subscription if you wait.

I have an iPhone SE and was thinking of getting an iPhone SE 2020 next year but as it is not 5G compatible, this makes me doubt. I donīt specifically want 5G for anything but once it becomes widespread I guess that I will "need" it (just as I did not "need" a mobile, DVD player, television etc.)

I'm assuming there's at least another five years life left in 4G so personally wouldn't make 5G a big factor in phone buying vs price.

Re: Switching to Sunrise from Swisscom - 5G

I have the Sunrise 5G modem and had planned on using it as my home internet. Even though my street is described as 5G, I never get a 5G speed except for one brief time in 6 months. The speed is about 40-75MBit/s....which for the price is nothing special

As far as waiting for 5G phones, I think the premium for 5G phones has now pretty much dissapeared. All the Iphone 12s are the same price as the Iphone 11 but have 5G. The only bummer with iphones is that they do not support 5G when using dual sims.

I don't see any valid point for a switch from fiber to 5G. Speed, connection stability, reliability, latency, all will be very likely worser with 5G. Unless you're a just occasional internet user where it doesn't matter that much.

The best part of 5G surely are the mouthy announcements by those providing it, the real application runs far behind that, at least ATM.

I confirm this is not the case for Cablecom. I was with them and had a terrible cable internet experience. After switching to MiFi 5G on Swisscom all devices run smoothly and several times faster (yes using speedtest.net from every device).

Give it a few months when a lot more people have 5G phones or routers and you may well get a different experience entirely though.
