Replacement for AirPort

In never rains but it pours ...

The Hard Drive in my AirPort base station has failed. And the router is misbehaving. It was inevitable as a few years old and as Apple has discontinued producing these.

I’ve sorted the hard drive issue backing up to external drives but I need to find a replacement for the router.

My network consists of the Base Station and 5 airport extremes which are working just fine.

I’m looking for a router that I can just drop in and continue to use the other devices to extend the network throughout the house.

Any recommendations?

I’ve done a search and most hits are from 2018.

Re: Replacement for AirPort

Have the same issue.
Did you look at Synology? They seem to have a well reviewed router which could be a good replacement.

Re: Replacement for AirPort

I‘ve been using the older Time Capsule as a router for years. When we moved to a new place which wasn‘t so open plan and has solid walls, in order to extend the network, I went onto Ricardo and bought second hand versions of the last version of the AirPort Extreme. Reason being, I know they all work well together, I like the AirPort Utility for simplicity of managing them and I don‘t need the latest WiFi standards - if anything really needs bandwidth it can be plugged into the LAN.

I actually decided I needed another one to make sure all of the terrace was covered with a decent signal a few weeks and picked up one that was like new for CHF 80.

Re: Replacement for AirPort

I’ve ordered a Netgear Nighthawk AC1900

Specs look good and should interface with the other airports in my network.
