Silly question time: Packaging for Hardware - keep or chuck?

Folks, daft question time:

I have lots of packaging for my Swisscom stuff - now over a year old. Most of it is cardboard.

Do I still need to keep for warranty/returns or recycle?

I would love to do the latter, but I am never sure if they need to be kept for the time that the kit goes wrong and you need to send it back.

Many thanks in advance for your replies.

I never keep packaging. It just clutters up the cellar. For Swisscom stuff, should it ever go wrong, call up their hotline. They're usually efficient and will tell you what to do. Normally they replace the defective item and you return it to one of their shops, without packaging.

I usually keep only the packages of fragile items in case I change house in the future, which at the moment is likely. Most of the items will be just fine being covered with a blanket.

I have brought non-working stuff back to the Swisscom shop (a Swisscom TV box for example) for exchange without packaging more than once, and it has never been a problem.

I keep packaging for one month before recycling. Just in case something goes wrong - only for convenience though. I've returned things after one month in alternate packaging and never had a problem.

It's almost certain that you will not need the packaging... until a few days after you've thrown it out!

Actually I keep the boxes of the stuff I have. When I sell items - years later, LOL - people actually quite like that.

But if I didn't have the space in my cellar, I wouldn't.

Re: Silly question time: Packaging for Hardware - keep or chuck?

I keep the packaging for about 6 months, then it's either recycled or used for storage of other items which I don't need but think I might, and in fact don't - until I throw it away that is!!

Recycle as well.

I used to keep everything to an extent it was invading keller space , during move , they were just not needed, returned original equipments in a coop bag to UPS/Swisscom etc and they were happy.
