Do you pay for youtube? [or how to block ads]

I watch a lot of stuff on youtube, it's normally on in the background all day while I'm working.. Great source of education for many things and mindless junk..

But I hate the adverts .. Is there a subscription that simply removes the ads? I don't need premium content or movies or music.. I just want to watch the same junk but without adverts?

I've read some sources that says you can pay to do this which I'm happy to do .. But looking on the actual site it just seems to be full service movies / music to pay for.

Try an ad blocker like uBlock Origin
Costs nothing

Re: Do you pay for youtube?

Yes I used a VPN to sign up for Youtube India with my credit card and once signed up you can then just use the other regional sites like normal. It costs me around 2chf per month.

outube is now essential in my media-consuming life and I watch it a hell of a lot now that I have my favourite channel subscriptions set up. There is so much amazing information on there for almost every conceivable topic or hobby that it has now become near-indispensible for me.

Premium just makes it so much better without any ads to annoy you and provides a seamless experience.

Yes you can pay to remove ads, but you can also just run adblock.

Why pay when you can just use an ad blocker?

Re: Do you pay for youtube?

Little trick I shouldn't share:

If you want ad-free Youtube, just add an . after .com

Like this:

https://www.youtube.com./

I use YouTube Premium. It includes YT music, Google Play and so on... all Ad-free. I took the family-abo and now my gf, sister, cousins don't have ads at all...

chf 15.90 per month for ad-free youtube is such a steep price. I hate the ad's but it is not worth that.

Because that's not the price just for the ad-free youtube. It also includes YT Music and Google Play Music which is like Spotify...

How do you block it in apps (running on smart TV / phone / tablet)?

Re: Do you pay for youtube?

My experience: if you use the YouTube App, then you'll get inundated with ads. If you go over a browser like Google or Safari, then no ads e.g.

There are still some OS level blocking apps using VPN with DNS blocking (whatever that is) although I've had recent problems with one I was using for the last couple of years, and another one kept failing to load its hosts lists.

Currently using Block This which seems to work pretty well straight out of the box, just install and go.

I don't use the Youtube app, don't watch much youtube at all, TBH, as I much prefer text-based news and information sources, so can't guarantee that it blocks ads therein, but it's working well for most other apps that I use.

I also use ublock origin within Firefox, as there are loads of ads, pop-ups etc. that don't come from external hosts that get through to the browser, and I add new ones to it whenever I see them. Added advantage is that your filters can be synchronised between different Firefox installations on multiple machines.

Well that would be a double bonus, so let's hope so, eh? The sooner the world is rid of youtube 'stars', instagram 'influencers' etc. etc. the better place it will be.

YouTube Adsense serves very little purpose to content creators. The money they make off it is insignificant, but high annoyance to the viewers.
Most youtubers moved on to other income streams, Paterson, merchandise, affiliation links, even just putting plugs right into their video (at least those can be skipped)

There are an absolute ton of good content creators on youtube that genuinely want to (and do) provide good and useful information to people, you just have to actively have a goal, hobby or interest in mind when you search for content and subscribe to the channels.
