FWIW, called Swisscom to cancel our service to switch to Init7 - they proceeded to entice us with a 50% reduction for a year if we agreed to stay for 24 months. 800 CHF savings over those 2 years compared to what we were paying to remain, no price difference over 24 months had we switched to Init7

Will look into options in 2 years I guess
This is amazing. I have been absent from this forum for a while, and the momenr I looked something up, I find useful things. I have been with Swisscom since, well forever. Salt keeps bombarding me with offers that look too good to be true, but I don’t particularly want to move to Salt — I have been their mobile phone customer since they were Orange and I am not happy for various reasons that I shouldn’t get into now. But it was my then husband that set everything up when we moved to Switzerland and now that I am alone, I just continue paying for Swisscom by default but maybe I should change. I have just checked Init7 and their offer is interesting, but I also have a fixed phone line with Swisscom and Init7 seems to offer internet and TV only. I pay 140 CHF for the Swisscom package and I had no idea this was negotiable. So naive...

I'd go with Init7, had great exprience with fiber7 and felt more like a pro subscription than a home one ...

My advice, call Swisscom and discuss cancelling and what your obligations are - they will ask why you are cancelling and I suspect they will entice you with an offer to remain. My additional advice would be to provide a counteroffer to that 1st offer or simply confirm it will remain prohibitive - at the very least, they will improve the 1st offer

From there, do the math and enjoy

I did exactly what you advised and I got a great offer — 45 CHF until August 2021, double the internet speed and they threw in a new Swisscom Box. I can’t thank you enough, it would have never occurred to me to try this!

This did not work out as well for me. So I decided to cancel my subsrciption. Having overpaid for the connection for some years (promised speeds were never delivered but I was charged in full anyway), I felt Swisscom should have been more flexible. Any how. Now debating between UPC and Init7. Any long term UPC customers and is it still worth considering? Had a lot of passionate Init7 customers who have almost convinced me :-)

Did you call and speak to a live person at Swisscom prior to cancelling?

Surprised they did not try to keep you. But if you weren't getting promised speeds then either was a good idea or your line may have an issue anyway

I was ready to move to Init7 tbh and would've been happy to do so, even if only as a trial for a year. You could do similar no?

Spoke with 04 people.
First two said No.
3rd worked on an OK offer.
4th one said No.
So I went with the majority view.... No... :-)

Re: UPC, Swisscom or init7

Hi,

My girlfriend just moved to Lausanne from Germany and the apartment has fiber installed.
What would be a good choice for a superfast and reliable (!) internet connection - which would also include good customer service? She will use the connection for work (videocalls etc.), so it's important that it really works. Speed probably isn't really that important, but why not go for the fast thing possible.

She doesn't watch TV (only Netflix), doesn't use a Swiss mobile. It's really just about an internet connection.

Salt is obviously off the table. Green and Sunrise also seem not to have great customer service.

Seems like it's basically Swisscom or Init7?
The price doesn't matter that much, but Swisscom offers "up to" 10 GBit/s (up/down) for CHF 59 (router included, no setup fee), while Init7 offers "only" 1 GBit/s up/down for CHF 65 (no router, CHF 155 setup fee).
Granted, Fiber7 comes with TV channels included, but she doesn't watch TV, so it's not really a bonus.

What would you do?

Just stay away from UPC, after ending the contract they kept sending me bills they made up. Better to avoid them

Re: UPC, Swisscom or init7

Had no problems with Green.ch. What I like is that the router has VPN built in.
If cost doesn't matter then just flip a coin or something.

Re: UPC, Swisscom or init7

Dumb question about init7. They make no mention of an included modem and want charge for a router.

Do they have a modem or do we need to buy our own?

Or if you want to be honest about it, and as everyone on the thread explained, they sent you bills up to the legal end of your contract including the notice period.

Very satisfied Init7-Customer here No dumb question at all! You need to use your own modem/router. Either you buy them yourself or the one they offer during the order process, which is usually a combo-device.

I very much suspect what they offer as a "router" is a combined modem/router and you wouldn't need anything else.
