2G salt cellphone service... gone?

I have an emergency 2G cellphone I keep handy in my car.... Seems however it's not connecting via 2G anymore while on Salt.. Have they turned off 2G then? If so, I'll miss my old black and white display with battery shelf life of 6+ months..

Re: 2G salt cellphone service... gone?

My phone can connect to salt network (roaming, french sim) when i'm on auto mode in 4g, but if i force to 2g, no network available. So it seems salt stopped 2g.

If interested, you can try the nokia 8110 4g, 25 day standby mode, with color display

Generally yes, though the details seem to depend on the provider. Swisscom (partner of Migros M-budget) will shutdown 2G at the end of the year.

3G is expected to remain available for at least 4 more years. German providers are planning to phase it out much sooner.

I just got a new Android phone with a 10000maH battery. It has an 'extreme mode' where it can last up to 30 days, allegedly. Weighs a ton, mind, but I've never really minded that.

Impressive, does it, cook, also? Quite a bit over the top for a phone I'll forget and leave always in the glove compartment..

Heh. I notice that the higher-spec WP7 model claims to have an IR camera/light, which is what I assume they're claiming can also perform sterilisation. You could probably cook very small amounts with that

Sure, not for everyone. But there's quite a few large-battery Android models out there, weighing much less than that without all the tough and waterproof features. Might be worth looking around a bit, and maybe you'll even be able to join us in the 21st century and actually use it like everyone else does...
