Re: Donít choose Salt

Getting back to Salt Fibre, I've recently had another good experience.

When I first signed up I had a "cheap" mobile contract with them, so was not eligible for the 10 francs a month cheaper rate. Some time between then and now I "upgraded" my mobile contract, since they offered discounts that made it the same price as my "cheap" contract, making me eligible for the discounted fibre rate.

I went into the store, asked, and a few days later got the information that they'll reimburse me the months' worth of 10 francs I shouldn't have been paying, apparently with interest (the amount is not a multiple of 10). The interest part was surprising ... as was getting the discount backdated without having to specifically ask for it. The lady in the Salt store basically took my info, looked at my account details, and forwarded the info to their billing department. She made no promises other than that I should be transferred to the cheaper rate starting from the next month.

The customer service in the store is decent for me, but yeah their call service is bad. What you pay is what you get. Their product has great value and mostly reliable for me so far.

OK, I can't recall a specific good experience
Still, if we discount the time all my recordings disappeared (and hey, I've made of ton of new ones, so....) then Salt has been pretty good.

It's cheap and I use the 10 CHF discount for the Mobile account to pay for the extra channels, which means I have more Stargate than I can handle. Love the Stargate.

The Internet is really great and very fast. When I got a new laptop I realized that the WIFI was better than I thought - that's down to the external adaptor on the old computer. On the laptop it is often VERY fast.

My main complaint is that you cannot record channels like SyFy. But that is not a huge secret, although they could make that clear up front before you get the Exklusiv package.

I recommend MBudget from Migros. Cheap and good solution.

Re: Do choose Salt

I started out with Orange, back in the days, and have always gotten fab renewal deals over the last 10 years.

Mobile: Never had any major issues and calling the support line has always been a joy to deal with (except once when a French native second level contract agent yelled at me, claiming I didn't listen to him the other Swiss german English speakers were amazing though).

I now got a fab deal (much better than the advertised online subscriptions with all the usual unlimited EU & US Data roaming etc included) so I have nothing to complain about.

Internet: Started with UPC 10 years ago but moved to Salt fiber (based on cheaper subscription) when it was made available in my parts of the country and it's been great. Using a mesh, rather than the built in wifi router on the Salt modem = better performance...

Unbeatable price and only had 1 or 2 "longer" outages since 2018 (at least what I have noticed) which happens anyway to all ISPs at some point...

I think it all comes down to individual's expectations, and especially their level of patience when it comes to passing judgement on anything involving subscriptions to services in general. Most folkes have a short fuse when they don't underestand what's going on and just want something fixed. When it comes to IT stuff, these things are not as straight forward as one always would expect and yes, there are at times very long waiting times on the phone but in all fairness how often do one sit waiting in line? I do it maybe max 1-2 times a year (if even) and then I just hang up and try at a later stage (Swedish Banks are notoriously bad)

Ofc, being yelled at is not cool (which happened to me without any specific reason, I let him finish and moved on), but hey f-it I'm never going to deal with that person again so who cares...

Re: Donít choose Salt

It is damn hard to cancel Salt contract.

Be aware their dirty tricks.

I first called the customer service, the guy insisted that I called too early and I should call the earliest 60 days before end of contract, which is of course wrong, as the termination notice is 60 days.

Then I decided to write to them to cancel.Salt replied to me that their new GTC makes it compulsory to call the customer service to cancel. Not sure if it is legally allowed to do so. I will call my legal insurance to ask.

Rubbish. Just write to them, registered post to be sure, giving them at least the required notice of cancellation. There, it's cancelled.

Yes, I wrote to them by registered letter to avoid the blabla.

Salt answered that by Article 9 of Salt GTC, it is not allowed to cancel by written to avoid misunderstanding

The related GTC reads
"
All terminations must be made by phone to the Salt Customer Service.Written termination notices(by letter and e-mail) are not accepted.

I bet that's because their operators are trained to try and make you change your mind and stay with SALT. They're probably authorised to offer you a deal.

It doesn't work this way, I tried it at the beginning of this year. I got back a letter that according to GTC* I have to called them. Calling them is pain in ***, after you finally getting someone, I had to spend almost half an hour of discusiing why.
So, Salt never again, (or never before I go trough all the other providers in CH)

*I made the original contract before such a rule was established, but of course, somewhere along, just by keeping their service I agreed with the new GTC.

If you ever reach to talk to their operator. It's like Ikea, it could take 30min waiting for one.

Salt GTC
I have just asked my legal insurance. It is allowed to have such nasty GTC terms under Swiss code of obligations.
