Where to buy CAT5e cable reel from online?

I'm trying to find an Internet supplier of small (i.e. less than 100m) reels of CAT5e UTP installation cable. All I've found thus far is CCA which I don't want, I want proper solid copper cores. Does anyone know of a suitable supplier, please?

(I've also tried the physical stores like OBI, Hornbach etc, all they have is "CAT7" or Cat6/a STP which I don't need.)

Thanks,

Jon.

Re: Where to buy CAT5e cable reel from online?

There is a very good digital store in Switzerland called Digitec (www.digitec.ch)

If you really require U/UTP then you have a spool from RS Pro: https://www.digitec.ch/en/s1/product...09024?tagIds=7

Manufacturer page: https://au.rs-online.com/web/p/cat5e...d%22%3Atrue%7D

But for half the price you can grab a SF/UTP cable which will be a bit more robust (and its solid copper core): https://www.digitec.ch/en/s1/product...99747?tagIds=7

Manufacturer page: https://www.inline-info.com/de/produ...24-cu-pvc-100m

That said, as why in the world would you go to save 32 CHF and wire something with Cat 5e even if you "don't need it" today? 10gbps equipment is getting cheaper and cheaper and by going Cat 7 (why in quotes? its a ratified standard) you can handle 10gbps wiring in the future: https://www.digitec.ch/en/s1/product...20606?tagIds=7

Lots more info on that cable (with datasheet) here: https://www.reichelt.com/de/en/home-...0-p142356.html

Please, do the right thing, go Cat 7 D: As someone who sees people save a few bucks and hamper performance for anyone who may require it, this is a painful question to read

digitec.ch, i.e: https://www.digitec.ch/de/s1/product...kabel-10282561
or ricardo.ch, plenty of that somewhat "vintage" stuff in sale.

Maybe they don't want it for ethernet.

I've run and used twisted pair cables for reasons other than ethernet before.

Fair enough, and excellent point! I should have kept that in mind and left opinion out of the reply.

No. Its an obvious question. You were right to add the opinion - especially with no additional information from the OP.

Which is more likely?

Someone has the skill and experience to precisely select a seemingly ancient cable standard yet cant figure out where to buy.

OR

Person believes they want/need CAT5e (with all caps even) and may be unaware there are other possible options.

Its a discussion forum.

I bought 100m from Aliexpress. I got Cat6, but they have Cat5e as well.

Re: Where to buy CAT5e cable reel from online?

Many thanks for all the helpful responses.

I already use Digitec a lot and I had found Cat5e on there but for the < 100m reels it seems to suggest it's CCA unless I'm mistaken?

That's stranded (patch) cable, I want installation cable i.e. solid core.

I hadn't heard of conrad.ch, will check that out. And I'd completely forgotten about brack.ch as well!

I only want Cat5e because it's a *very* tight existing conduit that already has another cable in it that I have to feed the cable through, and I know that CAT6/6a/7 are thicker and less flexible. There will never be a requirement for 10gig where this cable is going (it's to a wireless access point) and we are only in the house for a year. Everything that I need to be at 10gig already is, i.e. between servers, between my Mac and the servers, etc.

The former, I guess. I'm well aware there are other possibilities, I foolishly didn't mention why I believe they're not suitable. But I have now, above. Sorry if the capitalisation wasn't quite right.

Sorry, I didn't realize you wanted strictly sub 100m. All the links I posted first are pure copper.

You can still find U/UTP solid core installation on digitec:

https://www.digitec.ch/en/s1/product...pplier=2804880

Of course, its 100m, not less.

That's the part that I first said would hurt to hear. "Never say never". Wifi 6 already will take advantage of a 10gbps backhaul.

Solid core is really _not_ wonderfully flexible (I assume you know that, but it can be a PITA). Bending radius of the linked Cat7 is the exact same as the just-now linked Cat5e, and you're right, the diameter is 1.2mm greater for Cat7... you're gonna have to lube it anyways, just jam it in there!

http://kabelschweiz.ch/ is another good company to buy from, they have a lot to offer and at good price, just keep in mind the shipping cost but even with that their price is competitive.
