Re: New Shiny Apple Things

I got the Mac Mini with 16gb ram. It's pretty nice so far. The CPU is perfectly fine for basic browsing activities and handles 4k youtube playback without a hitch.

It's my 2nd time trying a mac and was quite disappointed by the lack of synchronisation with the iphone and so far i hate the mac way of window and focus management. the problem is, unlike other operating systems, it may not be customisable enough to change these so i'll have to decide whether i give it back. if it were customizable, i'd keep it. otherwise, i can build a pretty decent alternative machine with the same budget.

Had the mac mini since 2012, itīs more than adequate for my requirements, I gave it a SSD in 2018 which was like feeding it crack cocaine. Sadly itīs on itīs last OS as it canīt go higher than High Sierra without trickery.
There are loads of ways to customize the OS, what is it you are after?

Something like this?

Not sure what you mean by window focus, but there are oodles of ways to get the mac to do things you would not expect.
Have a look at these commands.

Re: New Shiny Apple Things

wish list would include:

- disabling spaces or not moving apps when going fullscreen into new/separate space
- customize shortcuts such as cmd-tab
- when minimizing a window, switch focus to previously open window
- reliable way to set-up keyboard shortcuts to launch apps (i tried using automation to create a 'service' and bind a hotkey to it alt-` but it doesn't fire reliably)
- maximize window without making the right hand window border 'grabbable' so that you can swing mouse to the right and click-drag to scroll without resizing window instead
