| | Amazon Prime [TV] is rubbish in Switerland
I've got photographic evidence that Knives Out is part of my Amazon Prime package. I've also got photographic evidence that "This title is not available in your current location".
So... do the assembled think I can successfully sue Amazon to the tune of £4.49 on the grounds that they've not fulfilled their contract. I did sign up for amazon prime on the .co.uk
*darkly* I'll take it to the UK courts if necessary.

Addendum. "These are the shows you can actually watch" would be nice.

Per their terms of use:
3. GEOGRAPHIC VARIABILITY
Due to technical and other restrictions imposed by content providers, the Service is available only in certain locations. The Digital Content (including subtitled and dubbed audio versions of Digital Content) and how we offer Digital Content to you will vary over time and by location. Amazon will use technologies to verify your geographic location. You may not use any technology or technique to obscure or disguise your location.
Same as Netflix and every other streaming provider I'm aware of.
It sucks, but not a surprise.

Am I the only one who thinks that, at least in the 1st world countries, inability to just click and buy any movie rental conveniently and without jumping through hoops, subscriptions and such like might be the main driver of piracy?

I'm confused - just get a decent VPN (I personally use ExpressVPN), set it to UK and watch your UK Amazon Prime Video as normal. Simples.

I think NotAllThere is, um, not all there but does the expressVPN still work? I heard they upped the geolocating and it doesn't work anymore.

Prime recognised that I was using a VPN and didn't function as a consequence.
The content available in CH only on Prime is rubbish. I cancelled my subscription before my 1 month trial ended.

I watched 3 seasons of Animal Kingdom via UK Amazon Prime in the last month or so without any issue. I also watch UK Netflix pretty much daily with it without any problem either. | Quote: | | | | | Prime recognised that I was using a VPN and didn't function as a consequence. | | | | |
Depends on which VPN you used - trying to use a cheap free VPN though is likely not to work as the VPN guys are constantly playing cat and mouse with Amazon and the like trying to block them. For example I used to have NordVPN which worked great for everything except BT Sport so I changed to ExpressVPN and I can now watch BT Sport as well as Sky, Netflix and Amazon Prime Video.
Even then you sometimes get something hanging around which it'll spot and block it but usually a restart of the laptop and opening the VPN before trying to re-watch the show sorts it.

Am still amazed the industry insists on these crap geolocal barriers. It's fighting a losing battle. Interesting article on the whole piracy debate in HBR I read yesterday: https://hbr.org/2020/10/the-digital-...m_campaign=hbr |

I use vypr. Anyway, I think I should have posted this in the first world problem thread. It's the free first month, so I've no real grounds for complaint!

Amazon Prime may be rubbish, but in no way even close to Netflix in that sense (i.e. Rubbishness for CH-based customers).
We have both. At least for us, there are many more "familiar" programs on Prime than on Netflix, and much less "missing" programs when we compare to our friends in UK.

Netflix in Switzerland is limited by contracts held by Sky, iirc.

It's not only the big players like Netflix and Amazon. I have a subscription with my local football club in the UK which, in theory, should allow me to watch all matches of the 20-21 season live on my computer.
In reality, quite a few games are not available because they are being broadcast live by Sky (fair enough, by watching via my subscription I would be doing Sky out of business). But there are quite a few others that are not available in my location for obscure reasons related to the fact that some broadcaster has the rights to show the game in Switzerland, even if they do not actually do so.
At least the club has now started posting the list of countries where the games can/cannot be watched, which they were not doing at the start of the season. But yes, what yacek says earlier in the thread is true... people will just turn to illegal means if the legal means become over-complicated.

I gave up on the VPN's as they would work for a little bit and then suddenly Hulu, Prime, BBC, Netflix etc. suddenly started recognizing them and I they were a waste of money.
HBO is the only one that worked with most VPN's and I don't need it now as I subscribe to Sky.

We use on called KODI and in the last 7 days it's had problems with BBC iPlayer. The programme plays for about 7 mins then the screen freezes. A pain as I'm trying to watch series 3 of Harlots at the moment |
