Since Swisscom changed their systems on to VoIP they have brought down the entire emergency system on 2, maybe 3 occasions and the only way to call the police was Mobile to Mobile. 112, 117, all broke!! So the reliability argument is out of the window for me.
Needing police or the chance of a power black out is a different story than a kid needing to reach parents. Or parent reaching a kid (so the possibility to call their cell or call the housephone). I don't usually get a phonecall from the police, neither on my cell not my housephone. Actually ever.

Re: Landline phone in 2021?

Thanks for the replies. After reading all the posts I have decided to give up the landline, the reasons for keeping it are not relevant to my life any more.

I did not want to pollute this thread, so if interested I have a new thread going on, HERE

Re: Landline phone in 2021?

I've not been in the phone book since the 90s. Why would you want or need to be listed?

I once lost the rear plate of my car.

That evening, I got a call (or sms, can't recall) from a guy saying that he had found it (i.e. he looked up the plate for my name, then my number)

If he came on EF, we'd have told him to put it in any postbox. It would've saved you a bottle of wine

Re: Landline phone in 2021?

I use my landline to call my mobile when I can't remember in which room I've left it.
