UPC/Sunrise - Internet/Mobile advice

I have currently two contracts-

Sunrise- Mobile phone subscription = CHF20 (very basic)

UPC- Internet 1Gbit/sec (Download) 100Mbit/s (Upload) + TV + Landline = CHF118
-
Total together CHF138

I want to upgrade my mobile subscription so that I have free calls from my mobile phone to all other mobile phones/landlines + unlimited monthly mobile data (at least within Switzerland).

Sunrise seems to have something called "We Mobile M" for CHF32 that seems to fit the bill (24 months locked in).

I want to cancel UPC TV and Landline to save money and because I don't use them. I want internet only for work and entertainment.

My UPC Internet/TV/Landline contract runs out in exactly 3months. So once I cancel it, I can either take, still with UPC-1Gbit/s(100 Mbit/s down) Internet only option for CHF49 or cancel it completely and get Sunrise Internet only for CHF49 too, but 10Gbit/s, up/down speed, better value for money on paper than UPC internet only option.

I will have to face the whole headache of moving internet from UPC to Sunrise, not sure if Sunrise internet is any better than it used to be when I moved away. UPC and Sunrise are one company now anyway.

Either way it will be, CHF 32 + 49 = Saving of CHF57 on my current CHF138 monthly outgoings.

What would you do in my situation? Also thanks if you made it this far

Re: UPC/Sunrise - Internet/Mobile advice

The landline part of my UPC package is CHF13/month. So you may not be saving much cancelling that.

UPC phoned this morning try to sell their mobile service. They offered unlimited calls in Switzerland for CHF9.90/month.

I wanted UK and EU too, as I get for CHF19/month with Lycamobile. Simply not worth the agro of changing...

for 50 francs you get unlimited calls in/to CH/EU/US plus roaming in those areas. No fixed contract. It's a front to a Salt sub with no phone and even Salt says they do nothing better for any price.

Then take the Salt home with 10Gb + TV + phone for 40 francs.

Bargain of the century.

Cancelling TV too. I only need internet. I will be saving CHF57 per month if I just keep Internet and mobile.

UPC mobile data for that plan is only 1GB, for unlimited data it jumps up to 29.90, basically similar to Sunrise option (CHF32).

Don't call anyone in EU or US. Then there is the headache of moving two contracts to Salt. I hear only bad things about Salt. With UPC+Sunrise as one, I don't know if Salt's days are numbered?

You mean can my address get 10Gbit/s? Yes it can!

Re: UPC/Sunrise - Internet/Mobile advice

A basic landline (i.e. just the connection, no calls included) is free with any Sunrise internet product.

For the mobile, CHF32 seems too much for unlimited data and free calls within Switzerland. Yallo are offering that now for CHF23 (marketed as a special offer, but they always have an offer on). Das Abo (Salt) is CHF19.95. Both of these don't lock you in.

You can probably get the internet connection price down a bit too, try https://www.dschungelkompass.ch which is a comparison site. I do not think you will benefit going above 1Gbit/s since you will likely be limited by your hardware speed.

Re: UPC/Sunrise - Internet/Mobile advice

It looks like you can use DasAbo to get the reduced Salt Home price of CHF39.95 per month for internet, TV and landline. So if you went that route you'd pay CHF19.95 for DasAbo plus CHF39.95 for Salt Home, making CHF59.90 a month total.

Edit: Internet prices are negotiable anyway. When you call up UPC to cancel, they'll start making you better offers, maybe they'll match whatever you found.

Re: UPC/Sunrise - Internet/Mobile advice

I started by calling Sunrise. I explained to them that I pay CHF20 per month to them and would like to move to their "We Mobile M" for CHF32 as advertised on their website.

They said no can do, as it is for new customers only. For me, it would be CHF65

I said what if I cancel and sign up again? She said you can, but you lose your number! I said in that case it is more straight forward for me to just move to another provider as a new customer and keep my current number. Then she offered it to me for CHF45, I refused.

What is the catch? So for CHF23 and I have unlimited mobile data, free calls to all mobile phones and landlines inside CH? They use Sunrise network, so why can't Sunrise even offer me that for CHF32!!!!

Re: UPC/Sunrise - Internet/Mobile advice

Actually they don't just use the Sunrise network, they are Sunrise with a different font. Same company.

I don't think there is a catch. And number porting should usually not be a hassle. They just keep high rates for existing customers in the assumption that most people will never switch.

Re: UPC/Sunrise - Internet/Mobile advice

Yallo seems to have negative reviews!

UPC has some reasonable Mobile offers, might be simpler to just move everything to them. UPC internet has been rock solid for me. Next call UPC to negotiate!

That’s what I did, I negotiated with them and more than halved the cost of our subscription.
The offer was supposed to for new customers only but I told them we’d move elsewhere then and she gave it to me.

I am pretty sure that UPC will move its mobile subscriber to Sunrise mobile network as it is now one company. Better to change the contract now.

All the mobile networks have bad reviews. I wouldn't read too much into it. We have had no issues with Yallo.

Called UPC, night and day difference compared to the person I got at Sunrise! I will be switching over to UPC my Sunrise mobile subscription.

Going with UPC business offers for internet + mobile subscription.

- Will lose copper landline
- Option of VoIP hardware, but if I don't take it, my offer will be cheaper. Not sure if I need it. Mobile phone + internet (Zoom/Skype) is enough for me.
- Basic TV is part of it, so I will take it too (was going to cancel TV originally).

It seems that I get a static IP for internet, I am not sure if that is a good thing though from security point of view! Need to think about it all.

Re: UPC/Sunrise - Internet/Mobile advice

I’m also shocked by the price differences between Sunrise and Yallo, considering my family pays over 200.- monthly to sunrise and we could get the better service for half the price.

I’ve checked the ratings of sunrise and yallo (also other internet providers) on trustpilot, they do all have terrible ratings (except init7, but there are only 9 ratings and their fiber7 is still more expensive than yallo’s offer)

I would suggest you to buy a prepaid sim to test their mobile internet (while you randomly traveling in your city/village), in case yallo’s data is deprioritized in sunrise network (or asking me since I’m going to try this)

Negotiations not finished yet. Might not go with the business option as it seems too much of a headache for my needs. Will update in the future.
