Quickline & WiFi protocol problems.

I have a subscription for internet and TV with Quickline. I now have a problem with my MacBook Pro because internet access is only WiFi. (There are ethernet ports on the router box but they are switched off.) After upgrading the MacBook to Big Sur, it would not connect the WiFi. On my iPhone and iPad I keep getting a warning message on the WiFi: "Weak security, WPA/WPA2 (TKIP) is not secure. Use WPA2(AES) or WPA 3". My MacBook running Catalina complained about this too.

I've called Quickline support a few times, but they refuse to acknowledge a problem and insist I've got WPA2(AES). iPhone and iPad insists that I *do* have a problem and the WiFi security is _not_ WPA2(AES) and it is *not* secure. Meantime I've had to do a messy downdate on the MacBook to get back online.

Anyone had a similar problem? Will I get a different router box if I switch to e.g. Swisscom? Will the existing fiber link support another provider?

I'm with quickline and as much as I'm happy with their service, literally the first thing I did was to buy myself a new router. I'm now on my second one (netgear nighthawk something) and all is well.

The Quickline Router/Modem is pretty limited. You may buy your own Router and connect it to the Quickline one. You will need to call them and have them set the (quickline-)router to Bridge-mode.

I have mine set to bridge-mode, then I'm using a Ubiquiti EdgeRouter and an UniFi AP. Works well and uses some modern protocols.

Re: Quickline & WiFi protocol problems.

Well I have a standard Quickline subscription and it all works without any problems.

- Standard Quickline Router/Modem
- Ethernet ports enabled
- Mac running Catalina
- security WPA2/WPA3
- Usually measures 295 - 305 mbps

Re: Quickline & WiFi protocol problems.

Thanks for all the responses. I now have the Ethernet ports working and my Mac connected by E'net cable. I'll decide later whether to get a router, but for the moment things are working OK.
