Salt Mobile - roaming abroad observation

As a Salt Mobile subscriber, I recently found myself roaming and using my phone as a hotspot to watch Netflix on Apple TV.

Bizarrely (or most excellently), it seems that my roaming traffic came out in Switzerland which was really useful as the Netflix library in my location is inferior to the Swiss one (bar the fact that Bridget Jones' Baby only has German audio....).

Is this the same for other networks when you roam? I am interested to know.

For those with Salt and unlimited roaming, it can be pretty neat and avoid the need for a VPN (for example Salt.TV aka matterhorn.zattoo.com works with this connection). Treat it as a public service announcement.

Footnote: For those looking for a brilliant value all-you-can-eat roaming and calls included in CH EU and USA, look here for what is the best offer in Switzerland.

Re: Salt Mobile - roaming abroad observation

I think it's the same for most if not all networks. If I use my UK SIM here then sites think I'm there. Some folk here without a UK VPN need to use it for UK online banking and you need it for voting on I'm a Celebrity.

It used to be you could initiate BBC iplayer with a UK SIM then switch to WiFi but they tightened their geo-restrictions a few years back.

I think there are better deals out there than green.ch, not least with Salt themselves.

Re: Salt Mobile - roaming abroad observation

thanks for that, I never noticed when I was with Swisscom-

The Green offer is Salt. It is flat rate in CH, EU and USA. The Salt Europe is slightly different as it only includes calls to CH EU and USA and not in those places.

So it seems free roaming can be extremely useful for changing locations - to your provider location.
