The tracker must be an app on your phone...right. You will find white zones in every route and in every network. Where i live i have good coverage from Salt but really bad coverage from Swisscom. cdcdoc posted the right comparison of Switzerland networks and benchmarking.
Agreed - but on my frequent routes (train to Lausanne, Geneva, Ticino and Basel) from Zurich, I rarely lost signal long enough to drop a call on SwissCom. The exception were a few longer tunnels.

On sunrise, calls drop so often that I have to apologize to clients and say I cannot take calls on the train. Not just in tunnels, but throughout the journey, it randomly drops.

I do not think that your experience is the norm here calling a network, any network, garbage based only on your experience. It is just wrong. It depends on where you live, what kind of mobile phone you have or even with the network profile that needs to be updated once in a while. I have 5g signal at home with a minimum of 200 MB in a building from 1984. My daughter lives in a brand new building and there is almost no coverage...any network. And you can stand next to the window. But that is why we have WIFI calling. There are many factors...not just your personal experience. Having 2 sims with different levels of coverage does not prove anything. I have 2 sims from the same provider in the phone, private and business and the level is different.
I am very well aware that YMMV, which is why I wrote 'in my experience'. The places I go and the usage of my phone is fairly consistent, so if I make a change from one provider to another I am able to compare. It is a fact that when I was on Swisscom I would get 4G internet inside shops, on hiking trails, up mountains, seamless internet radio on the highway etc.. Ok fair enough, perhaps garbage is too strong a word but its nowhere near as good or consistent as Swisscom.

My source of information is this bench marking company umlaut. I agree that personal coverage perception is different from what is tested multiple times by an external unbiased company.

Funny thing with sunrise coverage. Generally not as good as swisscom, but in my cellar, I get a signal from the sunrise sim, but not the swisscom one. I tried their 5G offering (free trial) and it was pretty good with the HTC router.

Re: Free 100Mbits/s Data Sim card for existing Sunrise customers

Regarding the 4G/5G speed there's many things that comes into play. Sunrise, Salt, Swisscom are all good, it just YMMV.

Indeed the possibility to have one abo (at least data abo) with many SIMs was something I was waiting a few years to come into Switzerland

I was using both Salt and Sunrise for over a year as my main internet source on the go. On one hand we are talking about network coverage (how strong is the signal here and there) but on the other hand we are talking about network congestion (how many users are sharing the "limited" bandwidth of the BTS your phone is seeing.

As a final rant, make sure you have a decent modem/phone with such features as:
1. WiFi n 5GHz standard, otherwise your upload/download speed on WiFi g/n 2.4GHz is capped to just ~20Mbps;
2. your modem supports carrier aggregation, it's about the modem being able to listening and transmitting on multiple frequencies at a time rather than just being able to tune in to the best possible network frequency
3. your modem support all the available 4G/5G bands, check on wikipedia which bands the providers use in Switzerland and/or neighboring countries. If the network supports say B5,B7,B20 but your modem support overlap only on say B7 you have to use the B7 band all the time and compete with all the users there no matter if other bands are completely idle, also I think that these bands are served by different antennas from the cell tower (BTS) so their signal strength and quality may vary

Re: Free 100Mbits/s Data Sim card for existing Sunrise customers

Hi everyone,

I have also recently switched to Sunrise taking advantage the Qoqa deal the was posted in the deal thread here on the forum.

I have mixed feeling too about the connectivity speed to be honest.
I was confident on my switch since I had Yallo (same network) and I was quite happy.
My previous setup was Yallo in my phone and a sim from Digital Republic in an old phone used as hotspot at home. (I am rarely at home, so I didn't want to spend money for a traditional connection)
It's only one month but I am noticing sensible slower time in loading internet pages, apps like IG sometimes do not refresh etc.
A couple of weeks ago I was looking at basketball game on a legal sport streaming website and the connection was continuously interrupted, something that never happend on that website with the hotspot with Digital Republic.
Could it be because it was raining??

I also wonder if the extra sim is somehow "restricted" to a certain speed, if the fact that it's in an old phone limits the speed and if somehow Sunrise "treat" differently costumer who subscribed through a promotion?

That would be the strangest business model ever. The reason for such a promotion would be to make you feel good about the product and order more paid ones in the future.
I think this is the best connection they can provide (up to the advertised 100Mbps of course). In case of recurring interruptions, you should just contact them and they need to find out the reason even for a promotion product...

Our company (2000 employees or so) moved to sunrise from Swisscom. I haven't heard a single positive comment since the move.

On the contrary, I've even had clients ask to pay our phone bill to get a proper connection...
It's all relative of course but this has been my experience as well as our company switched to Sunrise and I too have been very disappointed with the weaker coverage compared to years with Swisscom

On the positive side, having traveled recently to the US the Sunrise plan includes unlimited data, SMS & calls in US and Europe - so nice advantage there at least

On balance, I would switch back to Swisscom but fee wise it is very cheap - but then, you get what you pay for perhaps?
