Advice recommendation for cheap SMARTPHONE

Thank you anyway, I want to buy a cheap smartphone but NEW because every time I buy cheap used telephone it goes wrong Really not worth buying used older than 3 years because of updates and stuff.

SO i thought of buying 99chf WIKO phone from swiss post office. BUT it comes badly reviewd online.

I just will ask if anyone knows WIKO phone. or maybe can advise a cheap smartphone purchase in switzlerland. THANK.

Why not buy an Old iPhone/Pixel/Samsung Phone? I still have a One Plus One Seven which is running quite well. Not the latest or greatest but does its job well.

Re: Advice recommendation for cheap SMARTPHONE

Thank you for the idea to do that. I have bought a second hand but decided used was not great because it wasn't great and the updates and everything seemed to make it all clumsy. BUT maybe i just buy a bad choice. TBH it was like 8 years old at the time which is maybe stretching the idea of second hand what with new technological advance every year

Did you check on digitec?
They have quite a lot around 100CHF with reviews and from more "respectable" brands

Motorola generally make the best budget Android phones and it's worth paying the extra over a piece of crap like the WIKO phone for the better quality and features https://www.digitec.ch/en/s1/product...B&gclsrc=aw.ds

First time I hear of WIKO.
But if you go for that brand, check the prices here as well, free delivery. I use this shop a lot, never a problem.

Greta advises on handies?

I suspect they're mechanical and one winds them up 5 times a day.

Re: Advice recommendation for cheap SMARTPHONE

I got my last phone from verkaufen.ch which do previously owned/refurbished phones and tech. They are really good in the description and exactLy what they mean ~ what you get. Well they forgot to send the charge cable, but sent it right away after I asked. Price was unbeatable, for an S9+ duo last year with a little cosmetic scratch (barely noticeable and we'll documented in the description). Still working great, and don't notice the cosmetic fault under my case.

Re: Advice recommendation for cheap SMARTPHONE

I bought an Alcatel 5 from Digitec at 99.- does everything you need.
Also bought a Moto G8 Power from Foletti at 150.-, I might be missing something about Samsungs and Apples but I don't see what more those can do for 1'000.-
This Moto is just perfect, battery lasts for 2 days easily, screen, camera are great...

Fixed that for you.

But you say it as if buying a popular phone/brand is somehow a good thing in its own right, for no apparent reason that I can see. Why would you suggest that? All else apart they're much more likely to come with a lot of bloatware and be more difficult to configure how you want.

Personally I've gone with previously unknown brands for the last two phones Ive had, The 5-y-o Blackview one finally gave up the ghost last year, just started powering off occasionally despite good charge and a new battery, so now using a Oukitel. In both cases they're IP68 and virtually unbreakable - the latter being a brick with a 10000MaH battery that only needs charging about once every week or two. Not that I'm recommending these phones to the OP, clearly not what's being asked for, just that I really don't understand why anyone would prefer to pay two or three times the price just because it's a well-known brand.

Re: Advice recommendation for cheap SMARTPHONE

I bought WIKO smartphone (something around 80 chf during a discount at interdiscount) a few years ago to test app during development, but otherwise it was terrible as a phone, bad sound/connection quality during calls.

To be honest in my experience all cheap phones, even those from respectable brands, have some glitches so you need to define what you need from a phone. For example cheap Huawei phone had good call quality, good screen but some glitches with bluetooth (so forget about bt handset or bt speakers). There's even more to look after if you need a decent 4G internet and internet sharing capability.

IMHO the only bargain possible is to look out for last year (or 2, 3,... years) old top model. I bought once new Samsung Galaxy S3 for peanuts at amazon.de (but of course this is ok if you feel comfortable having an old android os possibly with known security holes so many apps or even web sites can exploit you)

It depends on what you mean by "popular". But there are hundreds of manufacturers out there making cheap phones and never care to release a single major OS update/security patch. I'd steer clear of these manufacturers.

Re: Advice recommendation for cheap SMARTPHONE

For a decent cheap phone, usually go for a Nokia like this one: https://www.digitec.ch/de/s1/product...upplier=406802

Main thing to keep in mind is battery capacity. A decent phone should be able stay charged for more than a day. Especially since most have batteries that are permanently built in these days and replacement doesn't pay anymore. Also, an argument to get a new phone.

With Nokia phones, even the new ones, been mostly satisfied.

Re: Advice recommendation for cheap SMARTPHONE

iPhone SE2.
Or iPhone 12 Mini.

Or a used iPhone XR.

As you realized already, if you spend too little initially, you’ll end up spending more in the long run.

These are decent phones with many years of free, seamless updates to come.

I second this suggestion.

You know Apple has become a brand because it built's good reliable products. My daughter [typical 16 yo] has had a iPhone SE2 for the best part of year. A phone she uses for hours a day sometimes I suspect, everyday, day in, day out, from dawn til dusk and beyond...

You play peanuts, you get monkeys.

Re: Advice recommendation for cheap SMARTPHONE

I just bought a Wiko, REALLY cheap 30.- simm locked, just to have one application that I don't want on my phone.

App works fine, but phone is really slow. Now I don't care, but I will not recommend it either.
