iPhone battery case with wireless charging and 3.5mm audio jack?

Hello,
My SO's iPhone end is nigh. Either I get her a good replacement, or else :-)

The non-standard misplaced charging cable is always a problem because everybody else has some USB-connector phone. So a standalone QI wireless charging station would address part of it (well, at least at home, where I'm tasked to find it again :-) ). A smartphone generally miserable battery life is another issue to solve.

So, I set out for an iPhone XR. Fine. But where is the 3.5mm audio jack?...

I found one for iPhone X instead:

However, iPhone X is basically sold out and I would have to pay extra to get it...

Re: iPhone battery case with wireless charging and 3.5mm audio jack?

All iPhones from Model 7 forward scrapped the 3.5mm audio jack but there is a lightning to 3.5mm adapter that the iPhones always include when buying new (Cheap off of Amazon or similar though)

World has gone wireless for a long time, might be time to consider a BT pair of headphones anyway

My SO's is unfortunately of the opinion that the device should serve instead of being served :-) Any clumsy magic spells of "pairing", connecting or not, having a phone audio call being hijacked by a portable bluetooth speaker or headphones currently on another floor, charging overnight or just, or especially loosing that yet another adapter cable, are not amusing to my SO, and, by extension, to me, if you know what I mean. I'd suggest an Android phone in a blink, but, as the dying iPhone in question is probably the only one on Earth stubbornly being refused to upgrade to its last eligible iOS version (don't people upgrade them just to get rid of that eye-itching nagging red notification dot on the cogwheel settings app icon?), then, well, Android doesn't even get mentioned as a rhetorical question.

You're being confronted with a well-known syndrome, called "Apple knows best". If you think you know better than Apple, you're going to be in permanent trouble with their products. Apple has decided that 3.5 mm audio jacks are unnecessary. They don't care about people who might want one.
I gave up on Apple products years ago, when I discovered that I couldn't do things the way I wanted. On top of that you're paying a 30% premium for the product label.

Yeah, I understand - Apple's secret garden is indeed exclusive and many details are an affront. Unfortunately, they work so well it is hard to switch (I've done the switch a few times, no more)

Else, iPhone is not for you or your SO - lot of good options out there I am sure, better still with 3.5mm jack

However, as I mentioned previously BT is ubiquitous, irrespective of device

Apple may have started the trend but Samsung, Huawei et al very quickly followed suit, which begs the question on whether it was the right choice?

When Apple dropped the 3.5mm jack in 2016, I bought a wired pair of headphones with lightening connector because I hate dongles. They were actually superior to my old 3.5mm buds in that they had noise cancelling built-in (powered via lightening) which would not have been possible with a standard headphone jack. And when they eventually died I moved to Airpods Pro and haven't looked back.

Re: iPhone battery case with wireless charging and 3.5mm audio jack?

It’s a lot easier to waterproof a phone that doesn’t have multiple jacks. And without it can be lighter, which apparently is desirable.

Re: iPhone battery case with wireless charging and 3.5mm audio jack?

Just use a simple USB-C to 3.5mm adapter, there is no other convenient way, because that one works for the majority.

There are actually still many decent smartphones with 3.5mm jack. I personally would recommend Asus ROG Phone 5, Nubia RedMagic 6 or OnePlus Nord N10. With a custom opensource OS build and an unlocked bootloader, these models may provide some privacy.

Other options with 3.5mm headphones jack are vast: some Samsungs (A52 and A72), Pixel 4a 5G, Xiaomi and its sub-brands, Motorola G Stylus and many others. But, since we are talking about privacy concerns here, I would recommend neither of those.

Re: iPhone battery case with wireless charging and 3.5mm audio jack?

Thank you for all your comments.
Maybe I will try to find a battery pack for the aging iPhone and push the problem down the road one more year.
An iPhone 6s plus is still as pleasant to use as a few years back and event the web browser on it works nicely and without delays.

As to the Bluetooth - some people say Apple wanted this piece of accessories cake and while other manufacturers completely dominate wired headphones, Apple has a huge part of the Bluetooth ones... When Microsoft dominated it was called "standard shifting" IIRC.
