Mobile Abo for calls/sms only under 10.-?

I'm looking for second mobile phone line for work, that only needs to accept calls and (because sms is expected with 07x numbers) sms, but definitely no data. I'm using a dumb flip phone anyway - a modern one so network obsolescence isn't an issue. But I can't afford more than 10.- per month. Prepaid would surely cost me more than that per month as well with the ridiculous per minute/day charges.

The cheapest I can find is Das Abo from Swiss Post/Salt for 14.95. But this still includes 4GB data, so I suspect there's still a cheaper calls/sms only plan hidden somewhere in a dusty corner of a provider's website. Anyone know of one?

Mucho thanks.

Salt Start is CHF 9.95 a month with unlimited SMS in CH and 1.5GB data (free sim card and activation).

I saw that one and am considering it. But the unlimited calls seem to only apply to the Salt network. I'm afraid I'd still see quite an excess of fees with calls to other networks. The 30 min outside the Salt network included is worth chf 7.50 alone in prepaid fees though. So this is definitely better than a prepaid plan.

UPC Swiss 500Mb, CHF9.90, unlimited calls and texts. 12 or 24 month minimum contract.

M Budget Prepaid Easy M, CHF9, 2 hours of calls and 200 texts.

When you say you only want to accept calls and SMS, you mean actually that you want to make and send SMS too, right?

I only really need to make and accept calls. But people expect 07x numbers to receive SMS, so I would probably need to have that capability, too. Otherwise Iím sure I would miss attempts to contact me.

Keep in mind that some people insist on using WhatsApp for messages and sending photos etc. rather than sms/mms which costs them or is just easier to do.

If you are not near a wifi that you have access to, you will need some data to receive messages and to respond on a timely basis.

With WhatsApp and other messaging services, the sender can see if the number is registered or not. So they can't send a message if the number doesn't have a WhatsApp account. They can't see that with SMS, so that's why I made the distinction. I won't ever be initiating calls or SMS from this number, so I just have to cover other people's assumptions. I doubt there are any mobile plans without SMS though. Still, I want to make sure the cost is included.

Thanks for all the input!

I ordered the Lidl subscription for chf11.. It's a really good deal and perfect for what I need. It also comes with 5GB data that I'll never use. But I guess that leaves me some flexibility for the future.

One thing to note in case anyone else is considering it, the Lidl signup doesn't allow you to choose from a list of phone numbers. I thought that was a little unusual as I was always able to choose with other providers (Lidl uses the Salt network, and Salt allows you to choose).

If you're never initiating calls or SMS, and never using data, why do you need a subscription at all? Receiving calls and SMS is free, you'd just need whatever pay as you go SIM card is cheapest to buy (you should be able to get one for free or almost free).

Iíll need to return the calls and stay on the calls for a while. I thought it through and I went with the Lidl.

Re: Mobile Abo for calls/sms only under 10.-?

Just a follow up: I went through the signup process with Lidl, which was just a one page form, followed by a thank you and a verification email. The next day I got another email asking for a copy of my Ausweis, along with a phone number for questions. I had a question about the possibility of using an e-sim in my dual sim iPhone, and wondering if at some point I would be allowed to choose from a list of numbers, so I called. The number went directly to Salt, the Lidl network provider.

The Salt representative told me Lidl doesn’t support e-sim and doesn’t allow you choose a number, and then proceeded to downsell me from the 11.95 Lidl deal to a 9.95 Salt deal the does allow both, all without my even asking about alternatives. She failed to mention that it has a 24 month contract attached, but I called back and they removed that the next day.

I thought it was interesting that they would offer a cheaper deal and bypass Lidl altogether. But of course they did. It gives some idea of what Salt’s cut of their various “partner” arrangements might be.

The Salt deal is different to the Lidl one. You could also get mucho mobile for 4.90 a month (30 days)

With Salt once you're on a partner program they try to get you to move to Salt on the hope you might take other products.
