Best place to Buy a TV in Switzerland (Geneva area if brick and mortar)

In Japan and the US, I find a model of TV that I want... and either order from Amazon or purchase at Costco. Neither of those will happen in Geneva area.
So what are the alternatives? Or should I buy in France?

Put the model number is www.Toppreise.ch

Works for all consumer electronics/tech and all sorts of other items.

Generally it will spit out Digitec/Galaxus, Microspot, Brack, PC-Ostschweiz as being the cheapest.

Could also have a look at Conforama; we got our TV there some years ago.

Nearest one to Geneva will be at

Rue des Entreprises 14
CH-1217, MEYRIN

www.Toppreise.ch also lists brick and mortar stores that you can shop in person, should you prefer that (but they're not always the cheapest).

Regarding France: as Tom pointed out, it's probably cheaper to buy electronics in Switzerland. Also, the plug may or may not require a Swiss adapter.

Decide what tv you want, google it, online retailers in Switzerland will appear. It’s not any different to the US or Japan

Digitec in Rue de Lausanne or Melectronics Balexert if you have a cumulus card- makes sure you use 20X points multiplier.

Hey, who are we to judge what a person needs? Maybe it isn't a priority. Perhaps it is just one of a list of electrical items the OP needs as they are moving here from Japan, where the voltage is 100v and nothing will work here, unless the item is dual voltage. The OP asked a question. All he deserves is an answer and fortunately others have been more helpful.

For televisions, we have experience buying from Interdiscount, Migros Do It (both offer extended warranty) and Galaxus. I bought at soundbar at Conforama which was a really good deal. We get their weekly flyer and they seem to always have deals on TVs.

Not all specials are on TopPreise so you really have to look at individual websites.

Also, just a tip, keep the box. If you ever move again you will want it. Or if the TV needs service. If you have space, it does make sense to keep the boxes for electrical items until the warranty is up...or for the next move.

Definitely worth bringing from Japan is a Japanese 220v rice cooker. You can buy the Japanese model here but it will cost you far more than in Japan.

Good luck with settling in.

Absolutely agree with bringing a rice-cooker. Much better selection in Japanese tax-free stores than here.

Actually my first post here about three months ago, before we even knew if we were coming, was about schooling for my daughter.
Followed by information about bringing our cat from Japan.
Followed by housing questions.
More school questions.
Banking questions.
More housing questions.
Auto license questions.
Car purchase questions.
Furniture purchasing questions.
Internet questions.

But hey, you do you.

Thanks! I've already sorted out a 220V rice cooker for the Mrs, as well as a few step down converters for some of the other electronics that we will bring (my 100 turntables in particular).
And while the televison isn't a priority, I am fairly sure that before my wife starts "diplomating" outside of the country again, and we need to get electronics for the house (possibly washer dryers, refridgerator, lights, and such), the television will be one of the pricier things we likely have to shop for... so knowing where to look is vital, and avoiding scams is easier when we hear from others and their experiences, so many thanks!

How do I find out if its the same in Switzerland if I don't ask? I haven't lived in Switzerland before... it's a legit question, when we moved to Jakarta, we found that had we asked some of these questions earlier, we'd have saved a fortune. This forum is really helpful for info, and I appreciate it. Better to find out now that many groceries will be cheaper in France than Switzerland... certainly helps.

I'm a bit miffed as to why I've been groaned at by FCBarca for asking a legit question. As well as the rolleyes emojis that I've gotten from a few posters. Why? Having a television upsets you? If so, keep scrolling by please.

Really! I hope that's good... they've gotten ridiculously expensive in Japan (more than our refrigerator, stove, and washer combined when I had to rel=place one three years ago... in the thousands of dollars now, and I really don't want the bells and whistles... just something that will show Netflix, an occasional DVD/BD, and the local news occasionally.

Be careful. Transformers convert voltage. But they don’t convert cycles (60 in US/Japan; 50 in Europe). Not an expert on this, just something I heard!

Buying electronics across the french border is an option worth considering.

Yes. An adaptor is needed.

Most French stores will provide a receipt that can enable the recovery of French VAT, standard rate of 20% versus the Swiss rate of 7.7%.

Holders of B or C category CDLs (or a Ci permit, if a B or C category CDL has been surrendered in exchange) are exempt from VAT in Switzerland on purchases of good or services over CHF 100 for their personal consumption.
