| | Sunrise or salt for wifi at home?
Hello everyone, I am considering installing wifi at home with either Sunrise or Salt. May I ask for advice or recommendations regarding the stability of the internet connection and customer services?
I only need internet at home (without connection for TV and landline telephone). Sunrise is offering CHF 59/month for everything, while Salt is offering CHF 49 for internet connection.
Do you think Salt is a reliable service provider? It seems that many people have positive comments on Sunrise.
Thank you very much!

Hi,
We have sunrise here at home, no problems to report.
If you can wait next march, usually there is a good offer through Qoqa. We pay 29CHF/month through this offer.
Else if you consider a 4G modem, digital republic is a must.

We use Sunrise and no issue, except very rarely some connection loss during major storms. The modem takes four LAN connection, so it's good for a family or small office if you need wired internet for some tasks.
Make sure to figure out the available connection in your area before you go for a more expensive high-speed connection. Both providers' website will show the maximum available speed in your area. If you can rely on a neighbor, you can try check the real speed using one of these apps:
Wired: https://www.swisscom.ch/en/residenti...speedtest.html
Wireless: https://www.cnlab.ch/en/speedtest
For various devices (though it does not seem that you need that): https://www.speedtest.net/ | The following 2 users would like to thank XDr for this useful post: | |

Thank you for the information, Marxb!
Sadly, I can't wait until March next year, as I'll need internet at home as soon as possible! May I know what is "Qopa"?

I've used Salt for over five years with no problem at all, and it comes with everything: internet (which you want), tv (via Apple TV, and you get to keep the Apple TV box after two years even if you cancel your contract - but you don't need to use it if you don't want to), and landline phone (which you don't have to use if you don't want to - just never plug in a phone).
Another bonus is that if your mobile's with Salt, and you have a "high" enough contract with them, you save 10 francs a month on the internet - which is a fibre connection, and therefore extremely fast and reliable.
The router does ethernet cable and wifi, including one dedicated fast ethernet port (10 Gbit/s), and has 2 USB sockets as well.
Pity I didn't see your final comment above, it seems that the other happy Salt customers are also too slow - 12 hours is a tight window ...

I've been Sunrise customer past 3 years, my subscription has been 100Mbps/ but last two months it has working very badly. After 20 calls to Support line, they finally promising send UPC Giga box without extra fees. As I learnt Sunrise and UPC are now days one and same company.
Very interested to see how will UPC box work, and could it be really 1Gbps speed as promised... |

Thank you very much! | | | | | After 33 years in Switzerland, a country with almost no competition in areas like telecom, I suggest the following: - There is almost no difference, between home connection from any of the main providers
- Never sign a contract for more than a year, even if you get a great deal on the first year
- Change every year - it's the only way to get the new customer benefits.
- Cancel your existing contract every year, even if you don't actually go through with it, as it forces them to call you and offer you deals, and gives you the option of changing.
- Both Swisscom and Sunrise have low-cost sub-companies (Wingo, Yallo, etc.). You can often get better deals with them, although their TV offerings may be less good. Having said that, who actually watches the 1,000 channels of crap they offer? Netflix, Youtube, Zattoo, there are so many alternatives
- Never think they are being nice to you - like most companies, they are greedy bloodsuckers who only have one thing in mind - their own profit margins.
- You may want to negotiate for a package of mobile plus internet, tv, etc., but don't forget the golden rule - no more than 1 year contract.
- Unfortunately, monopolies still exist in Switzerland. I moved into my new home a year ago and had no choice but to go for Swisscom as they had pulled a 10GB symmetric fibre line to the building and had an exclusivity for 2 years. You're damned right that once the 2 years are up, I'm going to the competitiion.
One final thing, Salt normally only provides an offer on their own connection. If they've pulled a fibre cable to your place, they are probably the best to go with. The main reason is that there is generally less upstream sharing of the bandwidth compared to Swisscom, so the 10GB will probably have lower latency and more stability (your milage may vary).

How shitty is that? Salt and Sunrise both offer 10GB ports on their routers. Of course, you'll need either a 10GB switch or Ethernet card to use such a port, but still!

We have sunrise fiber 1GB. For the first month (maybe a little longer, can't remember) we had issues with lack of signal. Later it got fixed on its own (I think somebody on EF once explained why such scenarios happen).
Since then it's been maybe 2 times without internet for less than a day each time. Otherwise fine.
We got ours for 35fr/month on a deal. I see there are now some 10GB for 39.

As posted previously I'm on Sunrise 10Gbit and couldn't be happier - I'm capped by my 2.5Gbit USB adaptor but I pretty much get that 2.5Gbit constantly and I've never noticed any speed issue.

had salt for 4 years, no problem what so ever. very cheap, pretty stable and extremely fast.
Unfortunately I moved to a location where Salt does not have coverage so I had to go with Sunrise. This company is a ing nightmare. first I called to verify the installation date and their agent changed the date and the delivery address.
Then they did not show up although I took the day off to wait for them and said that they have connected my house remotely, which is a miracle since the house is not connected to the grid, there never has been a phone line connection to the building. I call them every day and everytime I have to explain the situation again, every time they say they will call back , which they never do and every time the agents describes the issue wrong. My connection is live for a week now according to their system, I assume only so they can charge me. I have already cancelled my contract but they will still charge me for 3 months.
Stay away from Sunrise!!!!

This the polar opposite of my experience. Salt couldnt seem to match/find my fibre ID in the central database after it was newly installed even a few weeks later after installation.
Called Sunrise they could process it immediately for some reason and it was up and running 3 or 4 days later.

All the ISPs here are solid, but go for the one that offers the best price with the best package, if fiber based you won't notice a big difference anyway.

For those who don't know yet, Sunrise has several offers for black friday .
They also offered airpods pro with their mobile plans but I think it's over now.
Salt also offers a deal with internet + TV for 39.95. Salt seems to have the best offers for internet + TV, it's cheaper and gives the best speeds compared to Sunrise (49.90 for 1GB without TV)...
