Many times, the next time could be a permanent shut off with a judicially used hammer.
I'll need to do some research on routers before that though.
Beware, if it was free they will want it back. UPC definitely did!

Re: No fibre internet in Zurich city?

just purchased a 5G router for 20 CHF a month with an upfront cost of 349 CHF for the 5G router thingy. Should give good speeds hopefully.

only PITA now is getting a 5G card for my PC....the hunt will continue!

Checking the link that someone kindly provided me, it seems the line will do a max of 50mbps....so around 5mb a second? For my job I need a stable fast connection.

I looked into 5G but they all seem to have tiny data caps. Some said unlimited til you look at the T&C..
Unless your job is reviewing HD streaming services, 50 mbps will suffice for most of the remote connections to a virtual/physical machine of your company.

If you use internet through 4g/5g, there are definitely data caps, if you do not buy a data-specific plan. I had my home Internet through 4g for like 2 years. Even having 2 sims, with data-only plans (yallo, and Salt) I could get decent speed during the day, but in the evenings was just awful (too many people connecting to the 4g? I was in a "dormitory" suburb and nearby there were a couple of shady places (gambling and so on... maybe they were setting up "controlled" online poker rooms) with many customers.

Re: No fibre internet in Zurich city?

I had the similar problem in an office building at Löwenstrasse in 2017, and copper didn't do it in that case due to an awful up channel. Needed internet for video conferencing, but advertised 100mbps were never there with an actual sustained speeds at 40mbps best and an inconsistent latency with spikes in 100ms range.

Surprisingly LTE and later 5G cut it for me there, giving sustained up channel in 100mbps with latency spikes below 40ms. Back then it was Sunrise, now UPC and the quality of service deteriorated, so I switched to Salt - it has unlimited data with Surf Unlimited subscription, where I did 1TB+ in a month without a problem.

Your experience may vary (the clients' density and the position of cell towers are very location dependent) so DYOR and pick the carrier accordingly.
