USB Security Key Sicherheitssclussel

Hi!

My US bank has requested that I use a USB security key to identify my account.

So I was wondering if anyone would know if there is a store in Switzerland where I could buy one?

I have looked online but have only found suppliers outside of Switzerland and I need it ASAP.

Thanks!
Kevin

I'm curious about why his US bank suggests such a thing rather than 2FA authentication, card reader machine like UBS's or similar. Haven't the US banks caught up with the rest of the world regarding account security.

FIDO USB security keys are actually one of the more modern, advanced and secure 2FA methods.

The UBS calculator is actually considered outdated. I'm actually surprised a US bank has FIDO, given that most still use SMS and emails.

KevinD, it might be worth checking if there's been a miscommunication with your bank - generally this type of item would be provided by your institution.

ETA: I have to admit I was quite surprised that UBS provided me with one of the card readers here

I believe that UBS choice is now the access app.

You can use either for online banking. Thankfully they haven't gotten rid of the card reader yet.

ALL UBS account holders, including Swiss nationals, are automatically provided with this silly little plastic gadget called a card reader.

Nowadays, the UBS ACCESS app is widely used for your on-line banking device as the security key. You need to use your card reader to register in the Access app. Once you have registered, you can simply log in through the app. You will only rarely need your Access Card and card reader after that for additional security checks, e.g. when making a payment to a new recipient.

The apps are available free of charge from the Apple App Store, or from Google play for android devices.

Then it‘s really childs play to login to the online banking. I have to say I‘m quite impressed with the UBS apps.

Re: USB Security Key Sicherheitssclussel

I think the bank has to supply it, as it needs to be programmed to match their secure system.
