Need help with Facebook.

When I open facebook on the main page I get this thing " people who you might know" thing. I used to be able to stop it from coming but now there is no way I can stop it. Even in the settings I have disabled this but still it appears. Any ideas. Thanks.

Are those "people you might know" also duplicate accounts?

Could be. Facebook is full of such accounts. But your comment does not solve the problem.

If you use FB on a computer, install FB Purity. You can get rid of loads of things like this on FB with it.

Re: Need help with Facebook.

This should help:

login to FB
click on your photo icon, top right, creates a drop down menu
select Settings
select Privacy
scroll down the content until "how people and find and contact you"
edit the "who can send you friend requests" (I've got mine set to friends of friends just because I don't want to hear from completely random people)
recommend you edit "who can see your friends list" to "only me"
scroll down further in content to "how you get message requests"
edit the "other people" and change to "close"

go back to Settings
select Notifications
scroll down the content until "People you may know"
turn it off

hopefully this works for you - let me know?

Thanks tried all that but nothing works. I can click the friend list away but it comes back again as soon as I close and reopen FB even though as shown in my post the settings are on "Aus". They must be getting desperate at FB.

NB. I have asked FB what is the problem.

Thanks tried all that but nothing works. .
That's a shame. I'd stepped through that with 2 of my neighbours last week and it worked a treat.

I have noticed that FB seem to change their access rules at least every year.

Good luck!

I think FB has done it on purpose. Its maybe good for business. I used to be able just to click on the "hide people you might know" arrow and it would disappear and not appear again.

Re: Need help with Facebook.

I have to nudge-in here.

Yes, Facebook can be very questionable when used to document ones life as a bored housewife / househusband etc. etc. etc. But those tend to other social media platforms nowadays, and I understand create some really good content (I’m only on FB and EF).

However in many places, such as I am in right now - on a remote Danish island with a relatively small population (40’000) - it is a very primary source of communication within the local community for advertising local services and restaurants, or a stall next to the road selling the best bread or honey you’ve ever tasted (just drop the Krona in the little plastic box), looking for lifts to the little airport for the islanders needing help, exchanging updates on all new etc. etc. etc.

The businesses here do not use websites mostly, or tick-tok or twitter or whatever else.

We have a very thriving (and always friendly) community over Facebook.

Facebook is not just Zurich or EF members

You will find that if you show any interest in / join other topics and groups, that your homepage will be filled with stuff that might interest you. And the “suggest friends” thing won’t appear.

If you have no interests, then you will continue to be asked if you have other interests / given friend suggestions. Once you find interests / join groups, this will disappear. If you have no interests, then you will most likely continue to get this window asking if you want friends.

Am sure EF will all receive an update on your new interests.

Actually its not the homepage that I have the problem with. Its the profile page. One used to be able to hide this “suggest friends” thing. Not anymore.

That is strange.

Please send us a link to your “profile page”, and I’m sure that we can collectively solve the problem

This pic is from the profile page. There is a small upwards facing arrow next to edit profle. Before one could hide the friend suggestions (permanently) using this arrow. But not any more.
