| | Activating subtitles?
Hiya,
What is the magic teletext page to get subtitles (on analogue cable)? I was thinking of improving my German by having the words to read at the same time as they speak it (I know they don't always correspond 1:1) but was defeated at the first hurdle.
I can't figure out how to access the dual band audio either. There are no buttons that are labelled I/II or A/B. There is one that is labelled E/W but it does not appear to do anything (maybe none of the programs on right now are dual-band). But that doesn't worry me too much. Mainly I'd like to see the subtitles.
Any hints?
thanks -mike

For subtitles on Swiss TV activate teletext and bring up page 777 (or 888 one is for Uk TV and the other for Swiss)
For Bi canal sound , if you don't have any buttons on your remote then activate the menu button then and bring up the sound sub menu, if you don't see see a way of selecting the sound channel ie Left or right or A/B or I/II
then you need a new TV.
Hope that helps,
Nick

Note that channels such as SAT1, Pro7,and the two RTL do not air subtext on analogue television
On all Swiss( the french and italian ones too) and both Austrian channels it is page 777
ARD,ZDF,BR3,SWF,WDR etc it's on page 150
and the rest of the european channels it's almost everywhere page 888
Thank heavens for Subtext or us deafos couldn't watch telly at all! :-D

On the programmes that show dual audio, I switch my TVs' audio settings to Mono and it works fine.

Thanks everybody, the page numbers are what I was after. 777 vs 888, such a silly difference |

pat ,
only pro 7 uses subtext ( rtl and the others do not) and only if received digital ,if you get it on analogue cable you'll get 'pro7 schweiz' and therefore can't watch films with subtext,it only works on 'pro7 deutschland',just switch on the teletxt adn you'll see int he top hand title which one you get
Cheers

Well, I tried I really did, but NONE of the channels I tried (which was a lot) had subtitles for any of the programs on at the time, no matter which page I tried. I checked with the Kabel 1 website and it said 149 .... but no cigar. That page does not exist. This kind of thing happened for every channel |

I am living in Germany, and as many of the others have said the number of subtitled programmes on the German channels is really LIMITED....honestly itīs quite rare to find a subtitled programme on these channels. I actually wrote to a number of the channels, because like you I thought having the subtitles would help me learn German, but in general companies like RTL, etc are not interested because of the cost and the way their teletext systems are organised. On Kanal I and Pro Sieben I think some of the movies are subtitled, ARD and ZDF have a few more programmes (e.g. some of the news programmes)...but other than that there is nothing |

| | DRAMA Channel suddenly airs no more subtitles
Grumble, I recorded a few shows such as Dinnerladies, Judge George Gently on DRAMA and since about 2 weeks I can't get the subtitles to work.
Has anybody else the same problem?
We got Swisscom TV.
The Box has been reset and restarted and I also wrote an email to DRAMA Channel but haven't heard anything from them, yet.
Am really miffed, coz whenI first watched those shows on the 'regular' channels they all had subtitles, and like mentioned, up to 2 weeks ago it worked fine on DRAMA too.
