is that only via a set-top box or is that just by plugging a TV into the regular cablecom plug in the wall?
i.e. do I have to pay for them
Thanks

Thanks | | | | | It's only via digital (which requires one of the STBs)

Hey!
So what's the deal with the British channels??? Wondering why they constantly change what's on ... like you're watching a show for a while, and suddenly it's off the air. What's up with that? Any ideas?
Cheers,
E

Does this apply to the whole of the country or just the rosti munching area?

E | | | | | I'm not entirely sure why this happens - generally I think the announcer would tell you it's ' the last in the current series' before the final episode of anything and then give some indication of when it will be back on air.
I think it's to do with how the TV folks divide up the telly year. The BBC tend to advertise their 'autumn' or 'spring' dramas at the relevant times so I think they split the year into four parts. Then there's the football (soccer) season to work round and Wimbledon, the Grand National, etc. etc.
I agree it can be annoying; US imports seem to be shown in half-series chunks then randomly appear again months later.

I don't think the new channels apply to the Swiss Romande area. Although I hope it does.
Last year in the Swiss German part they switched BBC prime for Channel 4. Whilst down here we still have BBC prime. I'm not complaining though as at least my son gets to watch some CBeebies on prime at 6 a.m.

E | | | | | At least in the case of "Heroes" on BBC this had to do with the series going into hiatus in the US. As they've started to show some US series almost at the same time as overseas, they have to follow the irregular broadcasting schedule over there for some stuff. Most series go into hiatus at least twice a year - once between seasons and then again between November and January (that's why they have those funny mid-season two-parters).
Swiss TV does the same as well, BTW - they just kicked out "Private Practice" again and nobody knows when "Men in Trees" will return (not that I care much, but my wife does :-)

Maybe this can make some things clear.
The channels come to the digital base packages in the German part and Ticino. So anyone with an active box can get them, also when you bought this Nokia box ages ago.
If you don’t have cablecom digital yet, the box for 6 francs per month gives you all the UK channels.
Some parts in Ticino do not get the channels, because their network hasn’t been upgraded. In the German part you should be able to get them everywhere, where you can get digital.
I have no idea why they are not in the Romandie. Maybe they got more analogue channels and no room for these digital channels. Maybe you get them one day too.
The channels will appear on the 17th of march when Cablecom does network upgrades. They might actually appear earlier, but hidden for normal boxes as Cablecom will do some testing. But it is only a wait of two weeks.
You might have to rescan your channels then.

I would also point out that all these 'new' channels, plus all the existing UK channels on Cablecom have been on free-to-air satellite for a long while. A one-off payment of less than CHF250 will get you a complete DIY satellite set up (covered on these forums in great detail) from the likes of Fust, Media Markt, Interdiscount etc...

I thought you need some kind of card for that.
