I thought blackberry was in bed with orange, not with sunrise?
Or are blackberries non monogamous?

A check ( with Google Translate that is ) at the local BB forums yielded no positive results but keep an eye as you might never know if someone actually managed to do it. www.blackberry-forum.ch or www.blackberryforum.ch | This user would like to thank jrspet for this useful post: | |

Blackberry networking is rather complicated as RIM uses three different ways of connecting a BB to the web. There's BIS (Blackberry Internet Services), which is the Blackberry service for private customers. Then there's BES (Blackberry Enterprise Services), which, as the name implies, is Blackberry for company users. Sunrise provides neither BIS nor BES services (Orange and Swisscom provide both). The integrate Blackberry browser and most applications that are available for the platform only work on either BIS or BES. So you wouldn't be able to browse the web, install applications over the web (because they need to be installed using the built-in browser) etc. You probably also couldn't use e-mail.
All newer BB devices also support direct TCP/IP networking (meaning that you can use any provider's GPRS APN). Unfortunately, only a few applications can make use of this. Opera Mini, for example, works with TCP/IP networking and thus will let you browse the web on Sunrise.
However, since e-mail doesn't work I doubt this will do you much good.
There are also some other apps (MSN Live Search, Telenav Navigation etc.) that can use TCP connections. Google Maps and other Google Applications, however, can't.
I hope this clarifies things for you,
Peter

In my experience, Orange's network isn't as good as Swisscom's in some areas. But I was an Orange customer for years myself and never experienced any serious issues. Orange allows you to combine any data package with the Blackberry option and their student discounts are very good (wish they had those when I was studying...)

Did you ever get sorted? I'm interested in the answer!
My problem (if it is a problem) is that I live roughly 6mths in Switzerland in my daughter's apartment and 6 in my UK home. I have an unlocked BB 8820, not yet used, and thought I could use say an Orange Pay as You Go SIM in the UK and a similar Swisscom SIM in CH. I have a Swisscom landline and Broadband account.
I only wish to access my hotmail UK a/c's and send e-mails and do a bit of web surfing when I am in CH.
I wish to keep my CH expenditure as low as possible because all my income is in Stirling.
Am I on the right track?
Please take into account I am 71 years old and NOT a techy!!!!!

Yes I ended up changing my provider from sunrise to orange...
Swisscom does offer the blackberry service and I think it costs about 10.- a month which includes a fair amount of traffic for your emails etc. But you do have to sign a contract...
The Chaps in the Swisscom shop by Bahnhofstrasse in Zurich, are surprisingly helpful and nice. I don't know if thats near where you stay but perhaps next time you're over pop in and have a chat with them..
