Rent cheap DVD's

So you wanna rent DVD's in Switzerland and not pay through the nose? Well in Basel you can (and possible other Kantons too).

Go to your local library and sign up. It cost's 30CHF a year.

Basel AGB library's are chalk full of DVD's you can rent including lots of the latest movies. To get a better selection you can hit the main branch in the city for the latest and greatest title's.

You can rent 3 at a time for a cost of 2CHF each. 5-7 day rental period.

As a bonus you can access your account online and check out the latest releases (updated daily as they get them) and reserve. Reserving is a great idea as it only cost 1CHF per movie (plus your 2CHF rental fee) and you don't have to waste time checking daily for that movie you really want.

How does it work? Do you have to know the german translation to search for them? I am looking for Spooks and the Bleak House and just cannot find them for rent anywhere. This is just an example but it made me wonder..

Has anyone used this service (DE only) http://www.amango.ch/index.php ? It seems like they have a pretty decent selection of flicks.

www.abg.ch (click on Katalog/Suchen)

You can search in English and it usually brings it up, under the German title of course.

Hi muze,

Which Spooks are you looking for?
I could help you out with series one and two, though I don't have series three on DVD.

Send me a PM if you're interested.

Cheers,
=DM=

Re: Rent cheap DVD's

In Zurich, check out the Pestalozzi libraries: http://www.pbz.ch. Adults pay a yearly membership fee of CHF 45.-, children up to 16 years get free membership. Membership entitles to borrowing of up to 3 DVDs for up to one week at a time at no extra cost. Also books (surprise), CDs, CDroms available. You might not get the latest movies, but it's still a great deal!
