Re: Sky Player

Well for cricket you can watch eurosports player. Only Euro 4.99 for one month. It's available without a proxy.

Woah! Am I understanding that right - if you're not a Sky customer, you can pay a subscription and still watch Sky Sports?!

If so, I know how I'm going to watching The Ashes this year!

Sky player gives me 18 channels max at the moment and I am sure that Eurosport wont cover the ashes.

Interesting question. But I think you have to apply for a user name and password, but I don't think you can do it. Being a sky customer does give you the channels you have and won't let you open channels on the player to which you don't subscribe too on the box.

But - This is what is interesting, if you have a friend you can log on as them. Your friend could be watching it on TV through the normal satellite box and you are watching it on your pc. Picture quality is very good, better than a slingbox, lag is about 30 seconds.
Just managed to log on twice as myself on 2 seperate laptops and watch sky sports1 on TV,all at the same time.

Re: Sky Player

This text is what caught my eye, as I don't have a Sky box any more, and didn't really want to go down that route again:

Quote:
"You don't need to be a Sky TV customer to use Sky Player! As a non-Sky TV customer, you can subscribe to get live Sky TV channels without a dish, set top box or long term contract. Or you can simply rent or buy individual programmes to see what Sky TV has to offer - with no commitment at all!"
So I've just signed up for an account as a non-customer, and it seems fine. You have to pay 15 basic (for what they call the Entertainment Package) and then you can bolt on extras as normal (sports/movies/whatever). All to be watched on the PC, no minimum contract. I have a Mac Mini functioning as a media centre attached to my TV, and have just tested the free trial broadcast and it's decent quality.

Haven't actually subscribed yet as I don't want to pay anything until the Ashes starts, but I've gone as far as I can without doing so, and it looks fine.

If you're already a Sky customer, or know someone who is, then the packages available mirror what you've already got, with one or two differences I think.

Of course all this hinges on your PC presenting a UK IP address

Re: Sky Player

Is the qualtiy on the PC good enough to stream to a big flat screen TV?

What are the best options to stream this to the TV?

I think so, will try later, just going out. Most large TVs have a PC input.

Try the free trial test stream. It looked OK on mine (42" LCD). However that was with the computer on a wired internet connection. If you're streaming it over a wireless network then obviously that could have an impact.

Try the streaming on the ECBTV website. From what I see it is available for Switzerland

Re: Sky Player

Thanks! It certainly looks OK as it's restricted to territories that the ECB don't have TV deals with. So with no proxy to go through, it must be an easier call?.....

Re: Sky Player

That also looks interesting, however from what I can see it would work out more expensive than using the SkyPlayer, and it's not available on Macs (not an issue for the majority I know).

If you've managed to get a UK proxy / VPN working then Sky is probably the better bet, but if not, this also looks very promising. Nice to have options.

Re: Sky Player

I've paid 40 for a 12 month "live pass" on ECBTV. It's working like a dream, at the moment......
