Re: Phone cards for North America

You should check out www.rebtel.com its a great new service that allows you to call for free to your friends "back home" provide you both subscribe and that you have free minutes for calls between your mobile phone and local landlines...

You can also load up your account with a credit card and have as cheap a service as Skype Out without having to have a pc with you when you want to make a call.

The nice thing about the service is that you screw the mobile operators in the process! Considering the incredible margins they make on international calls its quite satisfying too!!

Re: Phone cards for North America

Here is one I used while still in the military. I still have the plan and can use the card while travelling. Good luck

Re: low cost good quality phone cards?

Try www.rebtel.com that works great if you want to call from your mobile (ie. you don't need your pc)

If you sign up you can even get your friend to call you back and then the international part of your call is totally free!

Hi
Does anyone know about a better calling card to call North America?
Also would you recommend getting internet and TV cable through CityCable (Lausanne). I don't want a land line as I have a cell phone and never really home during day time to answer the land phone.
I will greatly appreciate your input.
I just posted this in another reply. I go to cloncom.com My calling card to the US is 1.7 cents/min there is a very low connection fee and that rate includes a toll free number so you don't have to pay for a local call. It is the Titan calling card. I've used exclusively that type of card for about 10 months. The connection is awesome and have never had a problem getting through. You also get our pin automatically via email.

It is worth it to get a land line though because calling from your cell phone to North America even with a calling card is minimum I've ever seen is 25 cents/min. What you would spend in calling would most likely be more than your land line cost.

I refer to my previous posting. Try Rebtel since it allows you to phone from your mobile very cheap (provided you have a bucket deal with your operator - ie. Sunrise and others offer this now). Check it out since this will be huge in a few months time...

I've just started using Rebtel and it's the coolest thing since sliced bread. The connection is incredible and I can now talk from my US mobile to any Swiss mobile or fixed line for absolutely nothing. All it does is detract from my minutes. If you're calling from the Swiss end you're only charged for a local call, so like 50 rappen/hour.

Seriously, coolest thing ever. I'm not quite sure how they can do it but it's brilliant. Free calls between all rebtel countries. No calling cards or anything.

Seriously, try it out.

Seriously, try it out. It works for pretty much any two countries.

Or maybe the mods could merge this and the north american calling card threads.

is Rebtel any good?

I have read on a couple other threads that Rebtel (www.rebtel.com) is good for international calls, and just wanted to see if there are any other satisfied (or dissatisfied) customers here on EnglishForum.

Thanks!

calling cards are pointless for calls to people you talk to a lot. Rebtel works perfectly, and the connection is perfect. It's totally free between rebtel countries so there really isn't any reason not to try it.

course it's legal... its just VoIP made simple.
they take out all the pain of setting up stuff, you get to enjoy the savings.

if you can deal with the geeky bits, you can pay even less, but frankly when its down to pennies already, why bother ??

I didn't say it wasn't legal, I was just saying I don't know how it works. You don't need to be at your home or a computer unlike a lot of the other ones and you can use your mobile phone. So, it's not just pennies. For me to call a Swiss mobile from my mobile, even with a 'cheap' calling card, the lowest I've seen is about 15 cents a minute. You spend a couple hours a week and it adds up real fast. And anyhoo, why pay even pennies when you can get it for free. It's worth it for me, and most people I would imagine, to be able to talk to anyone, anywhere, anytime, for free.

There are no geeky bits or anything to deal with. Maybe you should try it before you nay-say it.

EDIT: Now I do now how it works, thanks internets.
