Just saw it on BBC, a free program to listen to music on your pc, if you are in the UK. An impressive list of stuff, all my old tracks from 30 years ago plus French (Jean Jacques Goldman) and Italian (Eros Ramazotti) stuff. You need to be in the UK to access or PM me. I am seriously impressed, now I can play all those albums for free. It is not a download site, but a site where you can play tracks for free, with adverts every six tracks. You can also subscribe ie without the adverts. https://www.spotify.com/en/products/overview/

Unfortunately it is not available in Switzerland. I have had my account suspended because I am no longer in the UK. Here is what spotify say... Dear Spotify user, We're writing to you in regards to your Spotify account which up until now you've been using free of charge. While we are really happy that you are enthusiastically using Spotify, we are unfortunately going to have to restrict access to your free account. Spotify is currently available in six countries: Sweden, Norway, Finland, Spain, France and the UK. We never intended to allow use of our service outside of those countries and we do not run any adverts on your account like we do in the launch countries. For this reason we have to restrict your account, you will be able to log in to Spotify and view music and playlists but not listen to any music. We are sorry that we have to take this step. We do hope to launch our free service in more countries in the future.

You could just google an "open proxy" in one of the listed countries, set up your network preferences accordingly, and create a new account. It's how I watch BBC here.
Your mileage may vary though. Not all publically available open proxies have good uptime, and they're often overwhelmed with users.

Reviving an ancient thread...
Now that I'm located in the UK, I'd like to get on Spotify, but don't know anyone who has an account there. Does anyone here have one that could invite me? |

I Spotify'ed everyday when I was home and was more than miffed when I realised that moving here meant I could no longer just search for any song in the world and listen to it immediately.
So I really like the sound of this proxy thing Thanks

I pay 10 quid a month for spotify pro. No adverts, much higher quality streaming, works here with no proxy (though you need to actually sign up in another country) and most importantly, works and syncs for offline use to my android phone. Awesome.

I've been using Spotify in Switzerland since moving here in September. The way I did it was this:
-downloaded program onto laptop while still in the UK
-came to switzerland and continued using it, but a message comes up when you open Spotify stating that while you are on holiday or overseas you can use Spotify for two weeks, after which you are barred from using it
-so I get someone in the UK to login to spotify as me every two weeks so they think I am in the UK, and I can use it on an ongoing basis just fine.
Hope that makes sense. Realise that won't be possible for many people, but it is a way.

It is better to use a VPN rather than a proxy... google UK VPN, it will cost you 10 Pounds a month! |

There's a comparison table of all the services here - http://www.spotify.com/int/get-spotify/premium/ | This user would like to thank Ed Pummelon for this useful post: | |

They blocked it in Switzerland. | | | | | They must have forgotten to block mine then, it's still working fine, I just checked it. |

There's also http://www.simfy.ch/start which is a Swiss spotify (as such), practically the same...except your British friends won't be on there with their playlists...).
I signed up to spotify free in the UK, then to keep it working here, signed up to spotify pro, but I had to use my UK bank account with a UK address...
