| | Educational Games
I’ve volunteered to help with support for an orphanage in Kenya. It’s a long story but, in short, I have a laptop, kindly donated by Nestle, and the intention is to load it with games which have an educational value, so the kids can get some computer experience.
I don’t have a budget and so I’m looking for games that can be downloaded for free. There seems to be a lot available and I’m wondering if anyone can recommend any free software that they, or their kids, have experience of. I’ll be testing a few myself and any input would be most welcome.
The laptop will not have an internet connection in Kenya so everything has to be set up before it goes out. It will be part of a 100 kg consignment of donated items which Swiss Air Lines have offered to transport for free. Any help greatly appreciated.

I have some educational games but they come on a disk. Which OS will the laptop have? If they are compatible I would gladly send them to you.

I too have quite a bit of offline flash based kids games that'll run on XP. I do a lot of customisation for kid's laptops. PM me if you need to have a disk sent to you.

No worries. As this is for a good cause, I can also collect the lappy from you, fine tune it ( XP, virtual CD & Games ) and have it delivered to you in a couple of days, should you wish for this ( at no cost ). I do this quite often with asylum seeker & refugee communities in Switzerland and sometimes abroad.
Some games you might want to download yourself first include:
World Food Program http://www.food-force.com/index.php/game/downloads/
GCompris http://sourceforge.net/projects/gcom...2.exe/download
TuxTyping http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/t...r.exe?download
Open Source Windows Games http://osswin.sourceforge.net/games.html
and many more

cheers | | | | | Thank you so much. I may well take you up on your offer. I'll come back to you later as, in the meantime, jrspet has sent a PM with a very generous offer of help and once I've had time to go through all the information he's given I'll have a clearer picture of where I stand.
So, thanks very much indeed and I will reply later.
This is really looking good now. THANK YOU EF !

A big thank you to those who responded and especially to jrspet for his very generous offer. With the links he’s posted, and some that I already had, I’ve now got a vast choice of free software games.
I’ll be testing some over the weekend but I’ve also been able to recruit some kids from a nearby, English speaking, private school who will also be testing and will give me their expert opinions ! Once again, many thanks to those of you who responded. EF is truly a wonderful place when you need help ! | This user would like to thank Blonaybear for this useful post: | |
