Phone Card for India

Hi,

I currently use "Asia Tel" (from Lycatel) to call up India. They announce that you get 120 minutes for a CHF 10 card but it "eats up" a lot of minutes and you end up getting something like 60-65 of pure talk time.

Does anyone know of a better value calling card for India and location (Zurich) where I can get it.

Thanks!

Re: Phone Card for India

The website I use to purchase my calling cards is cloncom.com You automatically receive your pin via email or from their site.

They search a bunch of cards you can buy online and give you the best deals.
I searched for India and it came up as the cheapest at 13 rappen/min. One thing you gotta watch out for with calling cards are the connection fees, some are like CHF 1/call and often times they have a weekly maintanence fee. Add that to the fact that some of them round your 1 minute call to 3 minutes and the cards can go fast. Cloncom.com plainly states any additional fees that go along with the card.

Re: Phone Card for India

You do not need a calling card. The quality is much better than any of the calling cards.

check these two links for the actual rates for India. They vary from time to time.

5rappen/min for calling both fixed and mobile lines in India
http://www.raptel.ch/index2.php

18Rappen/min for calling fixed lines and 5rappen/min for mobiles lines in India.

Re: Phone Card for India

There is an additional 10 rappen for every call (not per minute). In addition, you have to pay whatever the phone provider charges per minute. These numbers come under the category of business numbers. If you are calling from say a Swisscom mobile, it may work out to some 30 rappen per minute. If you are calling from a landline, it works out much cheaper cause it comes within the purview of local calling and minutes are available much cheaper (sometimes as low as 2 - 4 rappen per minute) in addition to whatever charges that raptel has.

I disagree. There are some calling cards that have terrible connections. However, many many cards provide just as clear of a connection as a land line.

Re: Phone Card for India

Not a phone card, but did you ever try out Skype or Jajah? Both require internet (so nothing for "on the road"), but in short:

Skype (www.skype.com): Rate to India 20Rp/Min.; You need a headset and the skype software on your computer; highspeed internet of at least 1000/100 recommended to get good phone quality.

Jajah (www.jajah.com): Rate to India 7,8Rp/Min.; You don't need any software, just type in your number and the others party number and you get the callback immediately. No need of highspeed internet, because your phone gets called.

Hope this information helps anyway.

I have used Judgement card twice, but I have got close to only 45-50 min talk time , for 10 CHF. I use it to call from payphones -- does that matter too?

Thanks

Yes calling from the payphone does eat up on your talk time. There are a few numbers given on the card - we use our landline phone and the number to dial then is 043 210... .

Re: Phone Card for India

I've just been given this website www.10787.ch (its in German only). You can either give your credit card nr or do a bank transfer (which is what I did) for CHF 15. If you do a bank transfer it takes 48 hours for your account to be activated. I've already started using my account and so far so good.

Re: Phone Card for India

I've been using rebtel ( http://www.rebtel.com ), and it works GREAT. Can make calls from my mobile: once you register online and add some money to your account, you call a local Zurich number and then connect to India. Call rates are currently around 1.8 centimes/min ( http://www.rebtel.com/en/Footer-link...-Campaign--TC/ ). Only potential downside is that they don't have toll free access, but with free calls to Swiss landlines from Sunrise, that's not an issue!
