Previous tennant info for phoneline

Hi,

I have recently signed up for the Bluewin Tv package. The CHF 200 off a new TV offer if you sign up for an accompanying subscribtion to Bluewin helped convince us it was finally time to get a TV.

After the multiple other headaches and extra costs I now find myself dealing with we also find out that our previous tenant did not have a fixed phone line and we will need an electrician to hook one up.

I was thinking that surely in the history of our apartment someone must have had a fixed line previously, perhaps the tenant before the last.

So my question would be is it possible to find out this information somewhere, and if not, does anyone know how much approximately this service will cost? Or an electrician in Bern that speaks English?

Wishing I didn't bother with the TV a all now!

Thanks in advance.

Re: Previous tennant info for phoneline

do you know the previous names of the tenants? Contact the owner/rental agency and ask for any previous number that they had in your apartment - this will allow Swisscom to activate the line.

The issue is that your phone line is probably fine but Swisscom don't have a unique identifier for your connection. Someone needs to find this.

Exhaust the information search first and then look to spend a few hundred on an electrician in the last case.

You could also go back to Bluewin/Swisscom for help and state that you might take digital cable TV as you're having problems to find out this information.

Thanks for the advice Boxman, still currently trying to track down any previous numbers, but so far it's not looking good.

Re: Previous tennant info for phoneline

we had this problem too... despite finding out the name of the last people in our apartment to have a fixed phone line, swisscom were unable to help us and we needed an electrician to identify the line.

The electrician set us back around CHF 150 (for about 12 minutes work!! ...it was listed on the bill as a standard set fee for the telephone line installation)

Re: Previous tennant info for phoneline

Thanks for the reply Jot. The nice guy at Swisscom told me similar. He said it would cost 150CHF just to get them to your house.

I decided instead all was all too confusing and canceled the contract. When I rang Swisscom the lady said since the line wasn't turned on yet that it was no problem and she could do it all right away.

Now that seemed far too simply to me, particularly from a large telecommunications company.

Now I am wondering if there is anything else I should do to confirm that this contract is in fact canceled?

Re: Previous tennant info for phoneline

I have just moved in an apartment.
It so happens that the last 4 tenants before me, never had a landline!

My Regie insists that there shouldn't be a problem with swisscom.
Swisscom says that they cannot detect a valid phone line in my apartment.

Others in my building have a land line...
Any suggestions>?

Do I have to call out an electrician to get a 'digital line' set up ? (for i fear that the line in the apartment is analogue).

Can anyone please recommend a good/reasonable electrician than can set this up.
