Ok yeah it doesn't look crap... but it's 1.6 as you say, and knowing SE won't be out till 2012, which as we all know will be the end of the world as we know it anyway. |

| | Re: New phone coming out... the Motorola Droid | Quote: | | | | | when will it be released?
I am waiting for it or for the XPERIA 10 from Sony Erickson, or the HTC HD2... | | | | | My HTC HD as I've said repeatedly was not a phone I've enjoyed owning, but this HD2 seems to have addressed three major niggles I had with my phone.
1. The new phone has a flash which I bemoaned the HD for not having
2. It is advertised on the www.Orange.ch website so will hopefully be able to finally utilise the excellent screen for the Live TV option (only 16 CHF per month) which I previously used on Nokias. http://shop.orange.ch/en/HTC/HTC-Tou.../invt/10056220
3. Plus it seems very cheap compared to the cost of my HD a year ago.
However, the firmware sold by Orange is only German or French at the moment so you may need to order specially (eg digitec.ch) to get an English langauge one if you need it.

. | | | | | The HD2 has been released TODAY by VODAPHONE UK.
They even have advertised the prices, which is quite cheap (like not much with a contract)
Apprently from various web sources, it will be in Switzerland by phone providers within a week.
can't wait!!!
No droid or no Xperia x10 though, they will be released at least the next month, maybe early january!!!

It has a great screen (HTC has to have some incentive if it still wants to sell WinMo 6.x devices) which is still a total waste since the built-in video player sucks. Apart from that: forget it. Windows Mobile 6.5 is nothing more than a couple of new icons. As soon as you get into the system settings, the calendar (unless you're happy with HTCs layer, which doesn't allow you to do much), the e-mail app etc., it's back to 1995. For goodness' sake, that thing still doesn't display HTML e-mails properly :-/

Peter | | | | | hm...well it will still be better than my nokia 6510...
Yes I know windows 6.5 is not supras good, I read many complete tests. Everyone's waiting for windows mobile 7.
I have to choose one device soon, and the problem is the super Xperia x10 is probably going to be release minimum 1 month...
Remain the old nokia 97 (no way, too old)
the Ipod stuff but I cant have it, and I dislike mac.
the Motorolla Droid\memento not yet released

Digitec just pushed back my N900 order to December
One thing that keeps me from scooping up the Milestone is the email support. I have a few email accounts including an account provided by my employer, but is NOT MS Exchange. We use a proprietary email system, but it supports a number of standards like IMAP and SyncML.
Anyone know how I might be able to access my work email with the Milestone without mixing up my work and personal email?

I'm not sure yet if you can activate the Milestone without a Google account. However, you could get an account from them (if you don't already have one) and disable syncing after you've activated the phone. That's what I usually do as I prefer to use my mail2web Exchange account.
Android 2.0 (which the Milestone is running) introduces support for multiple e-mail accounts. According to this review, it does what you're looking for: "You can add any number of Exchange, IMAP, or POP to the phone, and messages from all of them will show up in the combined inbox as well as in their own individual inboxes" ( http://www.mobileburn.com/review.jsp?Id=8142&Page=2) - that review's for the Droid but I suppose the Milestone will be the same.
Peter
EDIT: apparently, a google account isn't required to set up the phone (on the G1 it still was, on the Hero it wasn't, so I suppose they've decided to get rid of that)

I am definately waiting until Christmas now... as much as I want Android, I really also want Sense UI, so am waiting to see what HTC's Android equivalent to the HD2 will be. I'll see if I can play around with a Drois over chsristmas sometime though, im off to Holland so maybe it'll be out there.

However, HTC has announced that there won't be an HD2 version with Android. Nothing's been announced, leaked or rumored. I guess it's safe to say that there won't be a large-screen Android phone from HTC coming in the next 4-5 months

Peter | | | | | Ahh you need to keep an eye on Engadget Mobile and Boy Genius Report my friend... there is an Android device that while is not the "HD2 version" looks-wise, it is in terms of specs. It will be called either the HTC Passion, HTC Desire, or the HTC Dragon. SHould be announced officially by Christmas.

This Motorolla Droid (Milestone) is looking very good.
So does the HTC HD 2
And the Xperia 10
And the Nokia N900...
They are all quite good!
I can't wait to get my hands on one, preferably the HTC HD 2!
For once UK has something better... its free or cheap with Vodaphone contracts, and its already released....
Here in Lausanne I have been to a few shops, nothing. Online I cant get much infos, apparently its going to be announced soon.
In france they will announced it this monday (in 2 days).

Why? | | | | | This is one of the most useful features on my phone but it's nothing new, I've been doing that since I got a qtek9000 3 years ago. I set it up because I had a unix laptop and no USB modem drivers for tethering. Being able to turn the phone on as a Wifi hotspot then connecting the laptop to the internet via it was a big bonus. Wifi is a big battery drainer though tho so mostly I share the 3g connection via bluetooth but it's useful to have wifi as a backup.
