| | Cablecom Digital
I got Cablecom Digital today! I know, I know... poor value for money! I actually have Sky box and dish etc but cannot get a strong enough signal on my balcony
I was wondering if anyone else has Cablecom Digital?
Everything seems to work well enough, except that I am unable to change the language on dual-tone channels. Eurosport for example (100% dual channel)!
I get the screen with the option to change the language, but the options are greyed out and I am unable to access them.
Anyone has any clue?
Thanks!

As long as you actually have a clear line of sight to the Astra 2D satellite, you should be able to pick it up. It's not a 'signal strength' issue so long as you have a suitable sized dish and a good, low-noise LNB. ie. 80cm dish and 0.3dB LNB. The UK 'mini-dish' isn't good enough for reliable reception of BBC and ITV in Europe as those channels are on a transponder targetted on the British Isles, hence lower signal strength and the need for a suitable dish/LNB.
I have to admit that when I first was chosing apartment many years ago, south facing balcony with clear view to the Sky satellite was pretty much the primary criteria.

I have an 80cm dish and usually have a perfect signal but these heavy rainfalls we've been having of late have broken up my signal, it seems that cloud cover plays havoc with sat reception, funny because during the winter ( which was apparently very dry) I still got great reception during snowfalls.
As for cablecoms digital service, I find it a complete rip off, it appears that you have to pay the digital fee of CHF 25 to receive all the channels you already receive on analogue (which you are already paying CHf 25 for) plus the few extra digital channels, it bugs me that it is not possible just to have a stand alone digital subscription.

I have cablecom digital with the C more films option.
I cannot put up a sat dish in my balcony due to the house rules of the block, and had no other option.
But since I have it i like it - I get BBC, CNN, BBC + channels, National Geographic (in english) and C more though old movies, are ok if u have a free evening and nothing to do.
About the dual language on certain channels like SF2, it does not work and is quite a pain.
We should all make a complaint and threaten cablecom with this.
btw, does anyone have Cablecom internet? think i will make a seperate thread for this one

cablecom tv dual sound is famous for the fact that you have to switch back to analogue to get the dual-tone to work properly
I think it's *reasonable* value given what I see myself getting from Sky for over 90 francs a month Also in certain areas I think you might be able to get Premier over cable ....

Extra channels include: BBC1 and BBC2.
I have no idea nor concern about the rest of them.
- Some people may view a UK tenner a month or so for watching Auntie Beeb as good value. I do.
- Some people cannot put up a sky dish.
So if cablecom is *bad* value and you can't have sky, your options are...?

I know, there are no options , but it's still not good value and it's not a tenner a month. You have to pay your CHF25 per month for cablecom subscription and then another CHF 25 to recieve the digital package (Beeb 1 and 2 ) making CHF 50 a month for the beeb. Then don't forget the much discussed Bilag.

eh? what?
It's just CHF 25 per month.
That's all they are charging me anyway... http://www.cablecom.ch/en/tvradio/di...dch_preise.htm
I pay billag here, I paid TV license in the UK. No change there then...

However, if you put the dish on a freestanding mount and use those little lengths of flat cable to run the feed indoors without drilling any holes, then you should be OK.
If the grief is about merely the appearance factor, you can apparently place one of those garden furniture covers over the whole thing, as the synthetic material is transparent to microwaves at the frequencies used by the satellite. In this case, it might be better to carry out the dish installation late at night to minimise the chances that the neighbours bitch anyway. If they can't see under the cover, they have no idea what you have there

gbn, it's likely that your Nebenkosten is covering the basic charge for cable TV
And if as Gav says you get heat for having a dish on your balcony, complain about the neighbours' ugly plants and balcony furniture |

The dish, it's not the neighbours, it's 'er indoors that don't like the sky dish... I'll mention the garden furniture cover though, good idea that |

transparent dishes or Arcon dishes (because Arcon ones are smaller) might sway The Boss |
