I hate housework but survive it by "listening live" to BBC Radio 4 on the internet. Today my house is a pigsty and no work will be done as I cannot get Radio 4.

I spent a while trying to figure out why it kept saying "insufficient band width" when I know I have and even their test showed me I had sufficient.

Now I find if you look on the BBC FAQs this problem has been noted (ie. when trying to listen to Radio 4 from oversees you get this false error message) and the BBC are trying to find a solution.

So don't do what I did and spend about 45 minutes trying to figure out what was wrong with the computer.

Anyone want to do my housework?

I just tried and it seems you cant get live Radio4 but broadcasts from other days.Must be a problem their end,as this seems a new problem.The housework,cant help you there

I've had it intermittently.

I tried to report it a few days ago but got bored with the BBC's error-submission form.

The BBC website says there has been a problem since 26 Dec 2009. My listen live worked on Monday and Tuesday (4 and 5 Jan) but not at all today. So it seems to only affect some people some of the time.

You can sign up to their FAQs updates so that they let you know when it's fixed.

You can always join thebox.bz where I'm sure someone's uploading the Archers you're missing.

Do you have a satellite box? It'll come through loud and clear on that.

If you're a Cablecom TV subscriber, you
can also get your R4 fix from there...

The podcast feature should still work, even if the live radio doesn't. You could listen to those instead (using itunes or similar)

If FM isn't working (mine hasn't been), LW is...I know you get the morning service, the cricket, etc. on it but even if you are not after those, it's still a lot, lot better than any other radio channel.

My tangent quattro is still working fine (FM), althought the "on demand" selection is tiny compared with what you normally see.

The other day the BBC Radio 4 iPlayer page said iPlayer was experiencing major technical problems.
I still can't listen to Radio 4 at home as I usually can, but it seems to be working at the office at the moment.
As a good temporary substitute, the World Service doesn't seem to have a problem if you launch it in a stand alone Windows / Real player session.
Unfortunately Radio 4 doesn't show this option anymore.

Has anyone got a link to listening to Radio 4 live using the stand alone versions?

I hate iPlayer. The whole BBC website has got worse since its relaunch a couple of years ago. What a waste of license payers' money. Especially the Search function. You get more relevant BBC results from a Google search by adding a BBC prefix.

Phew! Thought I too was going to be Radio4-less indefinitely, so thanks to everyone for the info, especially the link to Radio4 LW ! FM disappeared for me this evening and I could not work out what had gone wrong.
