wireless router with cablecom modem

Hi,

I just moved into a new apartment and recieved all the Cablecom stuff i need for TV, internet and telephone. I received a normal modem that doesnt have a built in wireless router.

I still have my old Bluewin Netopia 3000 wireless router and would like to use it with my cablecom modem (instead of buying a wireless router off Cablecom).

Is anyone familiar with how i could achieve this ? I think i need to make a bridge between the modem and the router or something like that !!

Thanks for any info

Can you reconfigure your Bluewin router? That is, have you hacked it?

Does your Bluewin router have an ethernet socket?

Do you have an ethernet cable?

If the answers to all three are "Yes", then there is a good chance it is possible.

Re: wireless router with cablecom modem

I havent tried to 'reconfigure' or hack the router yet.

It has 4 ethernet ports and a dsl port

I have a couple of ethernet cables here..

I tried to configure it so it used ethernet port 1 and changed the protocol to 'routed' but i just go this advice from a website and it didnt seem to work.

Thanks for any tips.

Re: wireless router with cablecom modem

Probably just set up the wireless as a repeater. The conection is done on the modem with the direct internet coming out the ethernet. So by plugging your wireless router in to the modem via cable, all you should have to configure is the wireless router.

I have cablecom, but a linksys router. Workd just fine.
