Re: Cheaper Sports Package on the way......????

Update - I've been using DAZN for a few months primarily to watch EPL games. I even brought a Chromecast so I could throw the stream over to my main television.

Inititally it worked a treat; find a game on the DAZN app and cast it to the big screen TV via the Chromecast. This is the deal breaker for me, to watch the stream on the living room television without connecting HDMIs etc. It's the convenience factor. Anyway - awesome connection with very little if no buffering etc. Obviously the German commentary is not great but the lesser of two evils in the pirate streaming game.

Then one day just like that - the LIVE streams just stopped working on the Chromecast, whilst all replay events worked. Live streams on the app still fine, just not on the Chromecast. Numerous emails to DAZN support later; Chromecast timestamp issue, Chromecast reset, Chromecast firmware update etc..

I've suspended my account for 2 months until the new EPL season starts. Hopefully when I reactivate it'll show the LIVE EPL games properly on the Chromecast.

Does anyone have experience with DAZN on televisions with Android OS such as Sony/LG etc? If that works I'd consider upgrading my 7 y/o Samsung which quite frankly supports sweet FA.

Just as a suggestion, DAZN is a native app on the Nvidia Shield TV box, that is where I use it from. The whole box can be controlled from your smartphone, so no faffing about plugging stuff in or losing remotes (hopefully!). Might be a solution for you? It also has all your other stuff like Netflix, Amazon, Youtube, etc etc.

Cheers, not sure I want a separate box for streaming just yet (no doubt it's excellent). I'm a bit fussy about add-on hardware, I am guessing the Nvidia Shield box connects to the mains power supply so it needs to be turned on via a remote? (but can be controlled by a smartphone app afterwards). That's what I like about the Chromecast - directly powered from the TV 5V USB so its on/off with the TV remote.... Also the advantage of an new(ish) TV with Android OS so I can grab DAZN from the Google Store.

Since it's an Android box, it doesn't really turn off, just stays in standby. You can shut it down, like you can shut an android phone down, but I guess most people just leave it on all the time.

After it goes into 'sleep' mode, it automatically wakes up when your "Android TV" app connects to it.

EDIT: This is the TV app, it is exactly the same as using a remote control, but it is over WiFi, not infra-red...

Aha - ok that makes sense. I'll weigh it up, but I'm leaning towards a new TV anyway so I'm thinking with Android built-in

Fair play, but I suspect the hardware running in most TVs (inc Android ones) isn't quite as powerful as a standalone box. If you want to stream 4k for example, then maybe a TV app would stuggle? That is speculation, ask someone who knows, like Google
