iPhone purchased in US
 

Just wondering if anyone has purchased an iPhone in the US, and then subsequently moved to CH? I know I'll have to pay AT&T to break the contract, but once I do I'd like to get the phone unlocked so I can use with Swisscom. I understand that only the US mobile companies use the codelock.

Anyone have experience with similar situation?

Bought in US. Unlocked myself. Works on Orange and Swisscom like a charm.

Thanks. I'd heard stories that once you unlock the iPhone and subsequently plug into iTunes, the Apple mothership turns it into an iBrick - should have known it was a scare tactic.

Can you also please comment on the battery life of the 3Gs if that is the one you have?

I do have the 3Gs. The battery life seems to be about the same as the regular 3G, which I had previous to the 3Gs. I keep the wifi off to preserve batt life, unless I am using wifi, and use in 3G instead of Edge. Also, when traveling, I use a Mophie Juice Pack - http://www.mophie.com/SearchResults.asp?Cat=21 - and when I use the Mopie I can get a full days use - and I'm a pretty heavy user. You can slide the Mopie off to keep a low profile when not in use.
