Secure source code sharing

I and a friend of mine from Canada are trying to develop some software tool. To make the process faster, we need to work on same code base.

So what we want is, some website or web based service provide which offers secure project setup along with code versioning (Something like VSS or SVN on Internet) so that I am my buddy in Canada can work on same code base.

Our budget for this activity is *Free ~ 200 USD.

Any Idea/suggestion?

Re: Secure source code sharing

Manual solution, assuming your working GMT daytime, your friend GMT night time.
Get a website;
Upload your code;
Agree a protocol with the names of the source files/directories?

Should be within your budget...

Re: Secure source code sharing

Why not have one of you host the code system,
and install a firewall that supports VPN/IPSec, so
the other can connect in securely ?

I had a business in Australia and each night they would upload the accounts to an idisk (yes it was apple but they are lots of others)

and like mark says make sure that you set up some procedures so that you are using the correct file...

Re: Secure source code sharing

If you want subversion, but apparently don't want to use subversion/svn, I recommend using dropbox. It's free and secure and does the subversions for you. It doesn't have full svn capability but has really nice usability.

I have no doubt that you'll find what you are looking for on Sourceforge, under Version Control

If your data are to be stored on a 3rd party server, and you don't encrypt, then you are not running as securely as you could.
