Need help from the Swiss Mac-heads!

My old but oddly-still-alive iBook G4 made the trip with me across the ocean, and it has been happy here. However now I am in trouble.

I need a new hard drive. THAT...is not the problem. I have one of those.

What I DON'T have is a copy of OS X 10.5 Leopard. I didn't bring mine when I moved, since I have never needed it.

The laptop has OSX 10.5.8 Leopard on it now, but I will need an install disk when I replace the hard drive. The drive is too damaged to image, so I can't just reimage the new drive. I have several friends with Snow Leopard disks that have kindly offered them to me, but Snow Leopard is no good for me. The G4 can't run it.

SO! Anyone know someone who is willing to either sell or loan me an install disk for OSX 10.5 Leopard? I want my wonderful iBook to continue to live! If this is the wrong place to ask, I apologize sincerely. I was pointed here by a fellow expat. I live in Zurich, and would gladly be willing to travel or pay shipping (including return shipping in the case of a loaner)

Thanks again!

What i would suggest is to walk into the Apple store near Zurich HB. For 40CHF, they will install an older version of Mac OS for you. Only GA-1 version though - don't remember if the version you need is GA-1.

They offered this to me when i visited them earlier. I have 2 Macs with older versions ... the reason they offer to do this is cause some hardware sold today are not compatible with older versions. Am unsure if they will do this in your case - worth a try.

Be aware that you will not be able to create a bootable disk using a download. You should be able to create a disk you can upgrade with, or use to install to another disk, assuming the Mac doing the install is booted from some other volume.

Apple puts some special stuff on their install disks that a Mac needs to see in order to boot.

If you are still having issues, you can PM me. I do Mac tech support and have a retail Leopard install disk.
