Internet access in Küsnacht

I have a client in Küsnacht with Swisscom/bluewin DSL over ISDN. Their data rates are consistently _terrible_ (like 70kbps up, max). Swisscom agrees that the service is bad, but says there's nothing they can do as the house is far from the central DSL hub or whatever. Swisscom does, however, suggest that switching to VDSL would probably help.

Anyone here know of a non-Swisscom ISP option for Küsnacht?

Anyone have experience with Swisscom/bluewin VDSL?

Re: Internet access in Küsnacht

Have you reached some ISPs found on Comparis ??

http://en.comparis.ch/telecom/adsl/a...G_ADSLstandard

As for VDSL, try www.green.ch

For cable, try www.cablecom.ch

Re: Internet access in Küsnacht

I've had a lot of dealings with Green.ch and found them to be an utter disaster in all ways.

Cablecom is not available at my client's address.

I'll look into the other ones tho, thanks!

If the copper cable is too long then all providers who uses a single copper line are in the same boat, and the DSL service will be equally difficult for all of them

Only if the provider has the ability to bundle copper lines together to increase throughput, will you get any different service

Eg: cablecom business can provide up to 15Mbps symmetrical bandwidth by bundling 4 x copper lines together, thus overcoming some of the distance related problems.

However, on a long copper line, the bandwidth is always limited by the distance, so the amount of max bandwidth possible - even with 4 x bundled pairs - will be limited.

Check also with the local cablec TV provider, the benefit of cable TV systems is that the available bandwidth is not limited by the length of the cable feeding the house. The cable companies ensure that everyone can get equal service

PM me the address and I can give you some other options.

Re: Internet access in Küsnacht

Despite what it says, Cablecom is not available in most parts of Küsnacht.

I am on Swisscom who initially told us that we will be able to get HD down here, when we moved from the city. But they now tell us that we will have to get a Swisscom electrician down to activate it. Call out fee is 195CHF, plus the electrician's time, which they cant tell us how much.

We are now paying for the HD package but no HD and they've told us that there is nothing they can do about it unless we reach into our own pockets to pay extra for that electrician. Ridiculous.

Re: Internet access in Küsnacht

My client is now happily online with GGA-Maur over cable, and getting 20x the speed of Swisscom's terrible DSL line.

Thanks everyone!!
