hi richard, how do you know that cablecom will use a phillips hd stb?

krlock3
I don't of course (I guess they don't know for sure either) but what is there current DVR and what is the sensible thing to do upgrade to a new box from a new manufacturer which will mean a dual supplier policy or keep things in one hand? So as I said it will be Philips...

Re: Cablecom & HDTV

hallo fabio, I have also bought a nice HDTV (Interdiscount I think has the best offers) and I have cablecom. Already I could see some movies and a concert in Hd - not that I could the difference but it was nice to know it is HD.
Anyways, I just wanted to say that it is not Cablecom that send Hd but the satelite sender. So if BBC or CNN or EUROSPORt or whoever sends HD signal then you will get HD else you will get nada cablecom or not.
However what the cablecom box offers is digital TV. this means that they translate the normal analog signal to digital and that makes a BIG difference.
so i say go ahead with it. You can rent just the receiver and that is about 6 ShF per month and you will have BBC Prime, World, 1, " and ITV 1, 2 and Film4 in the paket.

Re: Cablecom & HDTV

Just seen this in Broadband TV news (http://www.broadbandtvnews.com/today/?p=1352):
Cablecom has announced plans to launch HD services starting on October 1. The Swiss cable operator said there would be an initial three-channel package comprising the German channels Sat.1 HD ProSieben HD and Anixe HD. On December 1, the channels will be joined by the new HD suisse channel from the public broadcaster SRG. HD Suisse has already secured the rights to the Euro 2008 football tournament that will be screened.

The launch of the HD service means that Cablecom will switch off two more analogue channels, U1 TV and HSE 24 will disappear at the end of August and November respectively.

There are also plans for an October launch of an HD service in French speaking areas in partnership with DigiTV.

Cablecom customers will lease their HD receiver at a monthly cost of SFr15 (€9.03). From the first quarter on 2008 it is hoped that a DVR version will also be available.

Re: Cablecom & HDTV

so it seems like october it is!

unfortunatlely, the offer of 4 channels only and a severely unknown amount of english language content, coupled with the fact the a recording facility will not be available until q1 2008 at the earliest, makes this something of a damp squib for me. i actually like and use the hard drive recording at the moment, and dont really want to lose that.

Damn, I was hoping to be able to get an all-in-one HD-recorder and HD receiver from Cablecom.

It annoys the hell out of me that there's no option to just purchase the media recorder, at 20 Sfr. a month, you'll be paying a quite a bit for one of those over the span of 3-4 years.

Re: Cablecom & HDTV

Calecom has released more than 1 year ago an HD box. for 9 CHF/month, you get HD Suisse, BBC HD, Arte HD and 1 German HD channel for free.

I use it and it is great!
