Interdiscount Cablecom Hustlers - deal or no deal?

just wondering if there is a catch with these cablecom guys in interdiscount. looks good on paper compared to swisscom. but i have adsl so that means i would have to get a cable router, right? and with cable, it's not dedicated as is with swisscom, right? just trying to get my facts straight.

personally, even tho i am paying more with swisscom, the idea of reinstalling/setting up a new connection puts me out a bit.

ideas?

i have cablecom and it's all good, setting up was a breeze and i'm using my own router; not sure what you mean when you say 'dedicated'

an adsl line is your own line.

cable you share the line with everyone in your building. during peak hours you may notice slowdowns, such as between 6-10pm. or worse, you've got one or more neighbors running massive amounts of torrents.

curious, what do you get with speedtest?

Yes and no.

Cable still out-performs ADSL by a country mile.

With ADSL, the congestion occurs at the DSLAM anyway.

And my cablemodem is also capable of up to 400 Mbps download throughput....

Re: Interdiscount Cablecom Hustlers - deal or no deal?

i just did a speedtest from work:

no wonder it never bothered me much at home!

i think i'll be looking into the cablecom thing. but damn i hate to change my email address for all those sites i'm registered with. is there some way of maintaining your old email for X months after a switch, so that you can eventually catch everything that needs to be changed?

Re: Interdiscount Cablecom Hustlers - deal or no deal?

Before you make the switch, search this forum for people experiencing problems with Cablecom, and people experiencing problems with Swisscom.

You'll see like 100 threads where people bitch about Cablecom, and none for Swisscom. The problem with Cablecom is that when it works, it works really well, but only when it works. Cablecom has no problems selling a 25Mbps subscription to someone in a congested region that will only get 1-2Mbps during peak hours (as was the case with me).

In my opinion, the Internet should be something that's "just there", and you shouldn't have to worry about it working or not. When I was with Cablecom, I had constant outages, high packet loss rate, and I couldn't even use simple things like YouTube and Skype during peak hours. Ever since switching to Swisscom, I've never once had to worry about an Internet problem or outage. It just works.

I'm sure many people can come on here and say "but cablecom works fine for me", and I'm sure it does, but it doesn't mean that it works fine for everyone.

I'll throw in a spedtest too, seems to be the popular thing to do :-)
