Hi everybody.

I have recently moved to Switzerland (Bern) and I had just started looking for apartment for rent. I've found 2 that I liked so far but I forget to ask in more details about cable tv in those flats.

I know both have cable tv connection, but i don't know which. How does it work here in CH, if the cable service currently installed in the flat is different than the one I want, is it possible to change? Is there charges involved?

One more question, both places are located and postal codes 3074 and 3073 respectively. I personally would like to install cablecom, but looking on their web site for service availability in these areas, shows me that it is not covered by digital service. Do I have any alternative? Do you think cablecom will cover these areas soon?

It is likely cable by Cablecom.

Usually, there is one cable provider who has a contract with the local Gemeinde (if the infrastructure belongs to them). I think in Muri it is QuickLine http://www.quickline.com/Ueber-Quick...s/DTVMuri.aspx

You can also receive cable tv through the phone line (by swisscom). Changing the provider is easily possible, though you might have to spend some money on the installation.

As I said, there is usually just one provider who also has (usually) a long term contract with the Gemeinde (who owns the cables in Muri, afaik). So I guess your choice will be between Swisscom and Quickline.

Thanks jrspet for the references. The problem is that both postal codes are located at Muri B. Bern. The 3074 is just in the border. Using the tool at cablecom website to check availability, in seems that this are is not covered by the digital service yet, which is a shame, they have some international portuguese speaking channels that I wish to sign in.

I have quickline in another area of Bern, and it seems to be fairly reliable. I think there are a la carte Portuguese stations.
